I installed a Maxtor ATA 100 card, a freebie with the purchase of a Maxtor drive and installed it to potentially add a four more drives and make my other four masters on their own channels. I can put NONE for slaves on the two channels of the motherboards in the BIOS, and they get breezed by on boot, but trying to detect the the two non existant slaves on the ATA card seems to take a lot of extra time. I don't see a way to tell the card not to look for them. Does anybody know a way?

only if you can enter the cards bios, which I don't think is possible, can you do that!
