Load temps with Xigmatek HDT-S1283 seem high.

Just installed the s1283 for an E8400, load temps are at 52C...seem a little high?

Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R
C2D E8400 @ 3.6 (1.280 V per CPU-Z)

idle/load temp @ 38/52 (Real Temp)

Used it as is with the push pins, had the mobo out of the case to make sure it was seated correctly, applied a thin line of AS5.
 
Not at all (depending) on what program you are measuring temp, what kind of load you are talking about, what case and case cooling/fans you have, what the ambient room temp is, what other components you have in the system,....

Real temp I didn't catch at first,.... I wouldn't worry,... but still depends on the others,... especially if your ambient temp is say open windows in the artic circle this time of year,...

I've ran Prime95 and OCCT, both put the load temp about the same in real temp. Case is an NZXT Appollo. 2 120 case fans, MSI 8800GT OC that is 38C idle.

Current ambient temp according to speed fan is 35C.
 
Thanks for the replies. Seems as though there would be a bigger difference in temps between the stock HSF and this Xigmatek. I was getting around the same idle temps with the stock cooler, my load temps dropped ~5C
 
I've seen a few threads in various forums about the S1283. The pros have been enough to cause me to buy it and put it in my upcoming build (E7200).

But I've seen this before in other forums. People who thought the temps were unusually high with that heatsink.

It's usually followed by some combination of the following:

- OP: "My temps are too high!"
- Comment: "My temps are great with the S1283... maybe you should try reseating it?"
A day later...
- OP: "Hey, that solved it! Thanks!"

My suggestion would be to pull it off and try reseating it. Make sure there's enough compound used around the heatpipes to ensure all cracks/crevices are filled (not too much though, of course). I've seen numerous threads where people just had a bad connection between the copper heatpipes and the CPU.

If that doesn't work... I'll defer to the experts. 🙂

I've checked it twice, pulled the mobo the second time. Applied a bit too much thermal paste the first time, which I thought may be causing the temps. Took it and the mobo out, cleaned the processor and heatsink...left the thin paste in the cracks at the bottom of the heatsink though. Applied a thinner layer of AS5 and reseated, checked the bottom of the mobo and it is fully seated.

The fan on the S1283 is optimized for silence. You could drop a few more degrees with a more powerful fan, but there's no reason to because it's the load temps you should worry about. You can definitely overclock your CPU higher, the temps aren't that different from 3.6GHz to 3.8GHz for Wolfdales. I think your S1283 at the rate it's going could probably handle 4.0GHz @ ~1.35v.

I'm using a HD-S1283 w/some Tim Consultants T-C Grease 0098 on a Q6700.
My idle temps are 37c, 38c, 37c, 36c respectively on Cores 1,2,3 & 4. These are at stock temps.
I've not put a load on it as of yet as i'm using an IP35-e while awaiting a replacement motherboard.
Considering my room temp is 32c, I don't think that's too bad.
When I get my new motherboard, I think i'm going to try some Zalman ZM-STG1 and see how it does then.

I did the 3 thin lines when I put it on the first time, but I redid it to make sure it was seated fully and just did a single thin line...I still had some AS5 that was filling the cracks, and 3 lines seemed like too much.
 
oh...and I've got some reading up to do before I go any higher than 3.6. It's stable where it's at (3.6) but I can't go any higher and keep it stable in Prime95.
