Load Balance Two Network Cards

Moonark

I am running some servers at work that I feel would run better if the NICs in the system were load balanced. I have 2 Intel Pro100 cards in each server, and there are some that have 3. Is there any way with Windows 2000 Server that I can do this? Does Intel have software to do this or no?

2000 Server can do it. Just keep in mind you'll need two seperate IPs to do so. I'm not sure what tools you'll have to use because most people I know don't use their second NIC for load balancing... Most use it for redundancy. What are these servers used for? Also, how much bandwidth do you think you need?

Go to the Intel Website, the networking section, search for "Teaming."

You may also want to check for updated drivers while you're there.

I believe the options will appear in the NIC "properties" boxes.

Good Luck

Intel makes dual port versions of their 10/100 Pro NICs which have loadbalancing built in at the driver level. The switch you're connecting too must support that feature but that's what we use with some of our servers at work...I'm not sure about using multiple NICs to loadbalance but the dual port Intel adapters are made specifically for loadbalancing or redundancy (using the same IP).
