I really can't tell ya.. since my car hasn't been stolen yet..

I'm not sure how it'll work.. probably sit and wait till it happens ;)

i paid good money for my system back in 97...
and it makes me wonder...

i've paid a company lots of money so that police can track down my car... down to exact location?
hmm..
for some reason...
i feel like it wasn't a good investment...

i never had to use my system yet.
but if you ask me...
if you have decent enough insurance...
it's not necessary.

besides... i hear nowadays... it's not as effective.
the car thieves have learned the secret of blocking off the signals.

if i could do it all over... i'd invest that money in auto car starting alarm system.

Really depends.
If your car was stolen in the night and not reported til the morning, for the most part it has either been dismatled already, or left somewhere(taken for a joyride).
I do know that it can be effective, if reported in time. Also consider if the car thief is already out of range of your local police dept, then they won't get a signal. Hence, bye bye car.
I would personally go for a good car alarm, not only one that makes noise, but disables fuel also. A common misconception of consumers is that if they have a starter kill the car can't start, well, if it's a stick, most of the time push starting it will start it, or jumping a wire to the starter solenoid will get it cranked.(If an automatic)
Good luck, I keep mine in the garage at home, but at work or mall, it's free for all. :(

Unit costs $595, extended warranty costs $99, total cost inc. tax is $729.70.

Insurance company gives 25% discount on comprehensive portion of cover with Lo/Jack installed. Say comprehensive is $1,500 per year. That is a savings of $375 off the insurance premium. After two years the Lo/Jack has paid for itself. Assuming one keeps the car for 7 years, total savings could be ~$1,500.

Who cares if you get the car back or not, you save $1,500 and Lo/Jack refunds the $595 if your car is not recovered within 24hrs of reporting the theft.

I installed Lojack because I live in LA and lots of people steal cars. My new car has it and it did give me a decrease on my insurance just to have it -- that will be worth it enough for me. I just wish you could "test" it out, to make sure it works after a few years of use in the car.

How to steal a car with lo/jack (came from a brother down in the hood):

Steal car
Drive to underground (cement) parking lot
Wait 2-3 days, if the car is still there.. lo/jack has written it off, and its good to go.

vash, take your car to a local service center and they can test it out for you.

Emulex, rofl. Also, you would have to know it had Lo/Jack.

A true story, I am not making this up!:D A jeep Cherokee wth LoJack was stolen sometime ago. When Miami finally got LoJack capable, its tower started getting a signal. It seems it was from the stolen Cherokee now in Colombia or Brazil. If you live near a big seaport LoJack can tell you how your car is doing on the voyage to its new home.

I don't think it's worth it, but that's only my opinion.
I have a Loctronics system on my car and it prevents the car from being stolen in the first place. It also saves me money on my car insurance.
I can't find anything about this on the web for some reason.
My local car dealer said that about 1 car a month was stolen from their lot until they installed Loctronics in each of them.
You have a special key type thing that you have to insert into a small box under the dash before you can start the car with the key. If you don't have the special Loctronics key, you don't start the car.

Wait, there was a number on my key: 1-800-759-LOCK

Hey, I called and they do have a webpage after all: http://www.ilocksecurity.com/

My system must be the ADV-2010 because the key looks the same and I have the LED light. Here are the specs:

? Starter Interrupt
? 17 Trillion Unique Customer Codes
? Visible LED Deterrent
? Passive Arming

edit: I think the dealer normally charged about $400 or so for the system I have, but they threw it in for free since I wasn't really sure I wanted to buy the car. That made me say yes. :)

lojack is worth while for the cost.

I rmemeber my dad put on the invisi-ID or something for 1200 dollars, basically a set of stickers to id the parts if your car gets stripped. But lojack helped the most.. though it hasnt been stolen.. the fact its there is reassuring.. plus 700 bucks is nothing.
