What's this world coming to? Spain has totally legalized gay marriage even adoption of children by gays.. Along with Netherlands and Belgium and soon to be Canada looks like a trend in the making? Or a European only type deal? Yes I count Canada as Europe..thier politics are almost identical.

This makes me happy. Mostly because I don't think it's my place to tell people who they can and can't marry. But also because it puts such a twist in the panties of the anti-gay marriage folks.
 
Marriage is about having offspring. That is my definition of marriage. When people of the same sex have the ability to do that, maybe I will support gay marriage, but right now, no.

Marriage should only be between a man and a woman, and this is a non-religious belief. Although all religions of this world stress marriage and creating offspring.
 
My view is like many of you seems to have.. if it does'nt hurt anyone and is consentual behavior between two adults I don't care what you do...

Drugs, gays, polygamy whatever.

That's a silly argument, because no one is banning marriage between infertile couples, or couples that simply don't plan on having kids.

Marriage is about having kids, in my opinion. Since a man and a woman have the ability to have offspring, marriage between them is legal. Of course there are people who cannot have children or who choose not to. Plus I just feel its not right for people of the same sex to marry, maybe my attitude will change.

Besides, I have a good gay friend and have nothing against gays, but gay marriage is stretching it.

Actually, people like you are in the minority in MOST of America. San Fransicko and Old York City don't count. I'm talking small towns, small cities and villages. Talk about gay marriage with a resident from rural Ohio, a Amish lets say, or a person from Austin and you will see how people feel about this issue. Are people's attitudes changing? Yeah, people's attitudes have been changing since the beginning of time, but at the moment, gay marriage is not accepted in America.

It seems that the extremists from both sides of the political spectrum are totally enamored with telling others what they can and cannot do based on their own perceived morality. If you want to have marriage between a man and a man, just eliminate marriage altogether. What is the point? It is supposed to be something, it is supposed to be a man a woman sharing a life together. What comes after gay marriage?

I could care less what kind of perverse sexual activities these people engage in. But marriage is a total different issue and it is a national, or even internation issue. Over time peoples attitudes will change, but right now, overwhelming majority of the world is opposed to gay marriage.

Give gays all the equal rights and benefits they want, but marriage is reserved only for a man and a woman. Period.

Why do away with it, because you don't like people of the same sex getting married? Marriage vows between two people is the ultimate form of making a loving commitment. Why should those of us who find Homosexual sex revolting because we are Heterosexual be able to tell people of the same sex that they cannot make that commitment to each other?

Like I said, maybe you guys should just mind your own god damned business and leave them alone.

Your stunning insults to areas populated by millions of Americans and your read on how well the Amish and Texans represent average Americans aside, I decided to do some, you know, research, and see what the numbers would suggest.

A recent Gallup poll (May 2005) said 56% of Americans are against gay marriage. Now that is a majority, but it's not a very impressive one. Certainly not considering the comments people like you make, suggesting gay marriage advocates are confined to big cities and small areas and are a bunch of wackos. Not like those "real Americans" who are firmly against it. Well...no, unless you are willing to just ignore 44% of Americans. And the trend suggests those Americans will be in the majority soon enough.

And anyways, I wasn't talking about the US when I suggested you were in the minority. In any case, contrary to what you might think, what people in San Francisco think is just as valid as what people in Podunk, Ohio think.

I'm sure someone will pop up here pretty soon and give us the old "gays have been around for a long time". So sh!t sherlock. Gay love is as old as mankind itself, however, gay marriage is a relatively new thing. Its not going to happen overnight. And shoving gay marriage down people's throats will only backfire. There needs to be some sort of understanding here that people of this world simply don't accept gay marriage.

Can you explain the concept of gay marriage with a straight face to some guy from Saudi Arabia?

I and most people view marriage as only between a man and a woman. Simple as that. Stop repeating yourself by saying I'm interfering with anyone when I'm not. I don't care what kind of sex gays engage in and don't want to know, but marriage is not a local issue belonging to one community.

It may not happen overnight, but it's going to happen. Everything I've seen suggests things are moving in that direction. 20 years ago, this wouldn't have even been debated, everyone would agree. Now it's not only being discussed, it's being legalized in some places. Things are certainly moving in that direction, whether you like it or not.

Also, some notes here. Saudi Arabia is not the source of my ethical basis, not sure why I should care what some guy there might think. People WILL accept it, many of them already accept it, and the trend seems to be on the rise. Finally, you are interfering with their lives. Unless you can tell me how Carl and Brad down the street getting married negativly impacts you, you're not going to sell that idea.
