video was great but i want the story before this. Did he give them a ticket already and then they did that and got into more crap.

honestly i hope the impounded that and people at the yard stripped it.
 
Once upon a time when I was quite a bit younger I was stopped for doing a burnout in a grocery store parking lot in my 1967 Mercury Cougar. The exchange went similar to that in the video and ended abruptly when I let the officer know I was on private property and that he could pound sand.

It sure made him angry and embarrassed. If those ricers had brains in their heads they would have said something similar.

Private property doesn't give you a right to drive recklessly in a parking lot open to the public. That officer must have been a newbie and you were lucky.

If he were new I would have expected him to sit there and argue a bit, maybe fly off the handle and curse a bit like the officer in the video above. This guy was middle aged and knew there was nothing he could do. He literally left within moments and said nothing further.

As for reckless driving laws... those laws apply to land which is owned and maintained by the public at large, cities, counties, states, etc. These laws do not apply on privately owned land and courts all across the country have upheld this.

You're absolutely right that simply being on private property does not allow you to endanger the lives of others. Proving that those people's lives were in danger is another story... and not one which will be determined by a traffic cop in the middle of the night. Oh, he may arrest those boys, if he's bored or new but they'll be out the next day when the charges are dropped.

I typically support law enforcement but when it comes to private property and private property right, I'll defend that against anyone.

At the most, the officer in the video above could have asked the proprietor of the property or a representative thereof if he could lawfully remove the ricers... that's about it.

Tell that to my friend who got a reckless driving ticket in a supermarket parking lot doing donuts in the snow. 😛

Oh and what could that civic have done to help that? the thing has vtec for christs sake

It looks like there was a car meet. He got stopped and the cop wrote a ticket. He then does a burn out to act tough and the cop comes back and screams at the ricers.

Here were the chain of events
1. Kid burned out 2 feet away from cop trying to chase other kid, accusing him of theft
2. Cop pulls him over
3. Kid cussed out cop and threw his DL at him after stepping out of the car
4. Got back in his car and sped up to 50mph+ on the parking lot almost crashing into the Tahoe
5. And still defiant after cop pulled him over the second time in the video

To play devil's advocate: do you think the kids would have responded to "excuse me sir, but you were driving a little recklessly there"? They needed someone in their face to really get the message I bet.

Getting arrested or another ticket would have made that point. Cop was out of line in his behavior, it was quite childish.

Obviously, +1 for completely getting owned, though. It looks like they had just gotten a ticket or something.
