This is really sad, I need to come to you guys to help me open my new laptop. I have read all the manuals (no help) and watched videos on Youtube, also without help.

Here I am staring and prying at this laptop but it will not open...WTF??

Any insight on this? It is a new Toshiba Qosmio (18") and I really want to fire it up and see what it has but I can't even open the frickin' lid. (Sounds funny, but I have tried everything and have RTFM, no help.)

I cannot believe it has come to this...

I looked up the manual of an X505 model and it showed no latching / locking mechanism at all.

What model is yours?

Your manual didn't say anything about a "safety screw" of some kind that locks the lid in place during shipping? I recall a long time ago with some laptop that I bought that it had one that kept the laptop from opening without removing it.

It doesn't say anything of the sort, just gets into the warnings of bluetooth and wireless netowking. Nothing about the actual use of the computer.

Didn't even come with a fooking restore disc, glad I have a windows install disc...

sounds like someone needs to hit up the gym!

srsly though, slide a piece of paper around the laptop between the screen and the body...see if it hits anything.

Try dry humping the laptop.

maybe lubrication is all that is required?

Using the computer for the first time
The computer is now ready for you to turn it on and begin using it.
Opening the display panel
1 Facing the front of the computer, locate the center of the
display panel.
2 Gently raise the panel.
3 Adjust the display to a comfortable viewing angle.

i say this self pwnage thread counteracts any epicness in cousin thread and brings you down to a l33t neutral status.

Or...

1) Take computer to someone with functioning brain matter and appendages. :awe:

OP I feel bad for you. That has got to be demoralizing. Call their tech support. If anything you'll make a lot of people laugh.

To be fair, I wouldn't want to force it either. Nothing worse than wrecking a new toy. OP you should call Toshiba.
