Kotaku says, "Seriously. This should be illegal."

It's hard to disagree but caveat emptor, my friends. Caveat emptor.

What does $129.99 get you?
* Setup & configure gaming console
* Installation of the latest firmware udpates
* Setup & configure local user accounts with parental controls
* Setup & configuration of one online account

A fool and his money are soon parted. I'm obviously it's for people who don't even touch the audio cables and pay geek squad to hook up their antenna to their TV as well.

Does this include the obligatory $100 Monster 3ft HDMI cable or is that sold separately? 😛

"Get the latest firmware updates for a mere $129.99" is misleading. Because its more than just that. You make it sound like thats all you get for $130.

That being said, thats far too much for such services, imo. But people pay a ton of money to have TV's, surround sound systems, etc. setup. Because some people just cant do it, or dont want to bother with it.

I used to laugh when CompUSA charged $50+ to install ram. Because it takes all of 3 minutes. But again, some people dont know how, are scared to, or dont want to bother with such things. So people will pay it.

Setup is a noun. They mean "set up."

technically the last line is right. but not the others.

while working for circuit city, i often wondered if they had monkeys writing their ad copy. monkeys with below average (for a monkey, even) grammar.

You are correct sir.

There are enough people out there with lots of money and little knowledge of cables and connectors for them to keep offering this at the advertised price. Some people want to buy electronics as a surprise gift and this is sort of a guarantee that they can have it up and running at a scheduled time. It's also offered as a solution to people who bitch and moan or want to return a console because they can't get it working. BB doesn't plan on selling it to everyone. Out of 100 consoles sold, they probably sell the service to a handful of people at most.

Separate, of course. They barely make any money off those cables. 😛

Ironically enough, I just saw an ad in a recent Best Buy flyer about the "deal" where you can get a 6' RocketFist HDMI cable for the low, low price of $49.99! "Save" $10!

Wow, what a steal! Only $50 for cables I can buy for $8 from Monoprice/eBay!

Ha, try $3.56 at Monoprice for a 6ft with ferrite cores included.

I can vaguely see it if they helped set up Media sharing on both sides, along with all the other stuff.. Even then, that it alot of $$.

But people pay it, so they can't be too stupid.. My friend does stuff like this on the side ( advert through craigslist) and makes a few extra hundred per month with only a few hrs invested. Good money in it, down side is you have to actually deal with the people that need the work hehe.
