Was heavy into LM, them switched when it look like they were going belly up because of funding. Still looks that way since communication from them is still poor and there has been no news that they will continue. Anyone have any news about the program? I don't want to run it 24/7 if they are on the verge of closing it. LM had told me early this year that they hoped to be able to finish the year, and with no news, well, it may be over.

well as to the matter of whether it is going to close, i cant speak to that, but i can speak on behalf of the inept staff and their inability to communicate with ANYONE running the project. if you are looking for a stable project, i DO NOT suggest lifemapper at this time. i run this project on a few machines and im strongly considering bailing due to problems as of late that arent seeming to be addressed. the only thing consistent about this project is the inconsistency of the staff and servers.....sorry to be such a hater but there are serious issues that need to be addressed before anyone should consider running this project without a backup project ready to go at a moments notice :|

LM has lost like 60% of its members since July. I tried to get some support for all LM's to put pressure on their management a few months ago, and all I got was people who had their heads buried in the sand saying LM was in no trouble, everything was fine, that I was lying when I said LM had told me they hoped they could make it through the end of the year. Even as users bailed in massive numbers, few wanted to rally the wagons and call/write/email those in charge. I had serious doubts as to whether the wu's were being used/saved at all. I like nature, the LM program is easy to run, and its a good fit for me, but the program appears to be in serious trouble and LM staff is turning on the very people that make the program, the users. It cost nothing, absolutely nothing, to give us an update once a week or so instead of every 2 months, yet LM staff even fail to do that.

he stats reports are a very database intensive process, and slow down the entire system markedly. That is why we do not update it more often. We have noticed that some of our applications are not scaling very well for the demand we are now getting, and are rethinking the architecture to improve Lifemapper.

Thanks for your interest,
LM Team (Aimee)

I asked a question the other day and here is the response that I recieved ...

The LM cmd line client is lovely. Very stable and doesn't have an effect on your system, but the problem with the LM server is troubling.

Hope they get it sorted out so we can keep crunching LM! :D

Ah man...... I really have a love hate relationship with this project. I like the environmental thing. The client works fine, but the whole backend is junk... wouldn't cut it where I worked before retiring, heads would roll.

There was a notice on Spectre's support forum for LM last week, in which Aimee stated to keep an eye out for an update/post this week on the future direction, etc., of the project. Actually it was put there a week ago this past weekend, and could be interpreted that the "post" should have been there by this Friday past. So perhaps maybe this Friday... who knows.

Myself, I've reached the point that multiple others have with this project and decided to leave it. I reached my goal of 100,000. If things were working fine, I'd keep at it, but we just go from one problem to the next, with the end thing being that there are other better run, more stable projects, with staff that appreciate and communicate with those that spend time, money, and effort to "help" their project out by processing the data for them.

I for one, would really not be surprised to see it fold. At the rate they are going, it will anyway because people just keep leaving. Just too bummed out on it to even care anymore. :(

cool thanks

Lifemapper grew much faster than they realized it would.

I hope they put the effort to turn it around.

There is no doubt after trying several dialup DC projects, LM is the easiest to run and trouble free in the CLI version. Its been difficult to find a good DC project. I've lost faith in LM as management is non-existent and clearly doesn't care. F@H seemed good, but won't run on my new computer in the GUI version and the CLI version has a mind of its own and now I can't remove it from my computer. FAD has a relationship with the consulting company that runs it that I think is purely wrong, and yet when you bring it up, I got the same response that I did months ago when I brought up the issues at LM.
