I recently switched from a geforce 4 MX 440 to a radeon 8500 (it was RMAed). However, all 3d games now freeze a few moments into the game, rendering many of my favorite games unable to be played.

The screen just freezes, and you can still hear the music. However, after a while, this stops. No lines, no BSOD, etc.

I don't overclock anything, and the case is relatively cool at around 30-40 degrees C.

I installed the newest catalyst drivers and control panel from ATI's driver's page. Is there anything I can do?

re-installing windows is a last ditch effort as I had just reinstalled it a few weeks ago.

Also, when I restarted my computer it says it crashed because it wasn't able to complete a drawing operation...

What does that mean?

Maybe a driver conflict/error. Did you ensure that all traces of the nVidia drivers went?
Try driver cleaner or detonator destroyer or any number of other programs (look a Guru3D for them)
Then reinstall your ATi card drivers and stuff.

ok, i removed all ati drivers and reinstalled and ran some detonator driver removers.

However, there's this one file, nv4_disp.dll that I can't seem to get rid of. I don't have a geforce 4 driver in my computer anymore, is it ok if I just delete it?
