It depends on which country. I would be concerned about the quality of the water and healthcare and political stability. I would not want to live where I could die from drinking the water or get shot in a civil war.

That's too bad, third world countries are MUCH more fun than first-world. Especially if you get your US salary, or even a fraction of it.

Damn! 3 years? I was there for a week and got bored as heck. No sights, no outdoors. The water around the island is pretty bad.
Its great if you want to shop for 3 years. Oh ya, you can watch the container ships come and go if thats up your alley.
The city is modern but that allure grows off quickly.

Mainly I'd be interested European countries and possibly Russia. Japan, China, Korea, etc... hold little/no interest for me.
 
I'd probably jump at the idea. I was a USAF brat, and spent almost 18 months on Okinawa, then, as a US Marine, 22 months in/around Da Nang, where I got to see lots of the "local sights"...or was that "got to see lots of the locals THROUGH my sights"? There are a few places in the tropical pacific region I'd like to see, and would like to go back to Thailand...once things calm back down. Fortunately, I'm not one of the former military who needs to return to Vietnam for "closure"...
 
Yes ... I have done so as well ... once living in Australia for 1 year. Brilliant experience that I may have to repeat.
 
Yes...not somewhere with higher than US cost of living though, has to be equal or lesser cost of living. If it had higher cost of living i would stay in the US and go there for vacation.
 
Assuming that my standard of living would at least be relatively similar, I would absolutely do this.

I'd like to live in Japan for a while, and though someplace like Tokyo might be a stretch on my current salary, there are plenty of other places that would be more reasonable.

If we're talking a cost-of-living adjusted salary, then it just makes things even easier. 🙂

Meh, it depends. If I have nothing tying me down, why not? If the factors pull together and the standard of living is cheaper then I just might.
 
Probably in the minority here but I said no. Reason being I'd feel like a jackass moving to a country where I didn't speak their language. Of course I plan on learning Russian sometime due to the high population of Russians around here, seems like it'd be a good trait to have for a businessman here.

Who needs a poll? The best looking women are in Thailand and Chile. Santiago wins the tiebreaker because you can normally tell which ones aren't really women.

 
Definitely. It's a great opportunity to learn and grow. I'd jump at the chance as long as it wasn't some crap hole country and the lives of my family and I weren't in danger.

Actually the choices seem to have been narrowed down further. The Chile, Ecuador, and China programs are mainly language-oriented and would not progress me much towards my degree. The Thailand program has tons of interesting classes and they go towards my degree (Philosophy pre-law with a minor in Economics). That narrows it down to Nairobi and Bangkok, and I'd be lying if I said I had given a second thought to Nairobi. Exotic and new (I've already been to Bangkok) but not the best place to meet women and doesn't seem to have as good of food. I could get used to that 25 cents pad Thai I loved so much on Th Khao San.

Even before all of this I had watched a documentary on Salvadre Allende and made Chile my #1 travel destination. It sucks that the classes just don't match up with it because I'm sure Santiago would be awesome.
