Living in a van for a year to save $?

Van? No. RV maybe. Then at least you have amenities and toilet/possibly shower. Maybe find someone who will let you plug in on their property for a small fee?

I don't see it working as you couldn't park it anywhere near businesses but then what do you do when you gotta piss in the middle of the night, drive around until you find a 24/7 restaurant?

i wish i did that when i was young to save up for a fat down payment on a house. A year or so of sacrifice can save a lot of financial headaches down the road.

I remember coming across a website dedicated to people who do just this, living in a van and/or off the grid. It was several months ago, I can't recall the name but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Seems to be a whole subculture around this lifestyle. Would be a fun way for a year max, to see the country and do some interesting things.

And if Chris Farley the motivational speaker can do it, how hard can it be? :hmm:

My son did it for a few months when he started his job. Lived in a Grand Caravan, got a membership at the YMCA. Worked out after work, took a shower at the Y, ate out at restaurants (and used their bathrooms), and saved up quite a bit of money. Once it started getting cold out in the late fall, he switched to hotels/motels.

People here look down on kids who live with their parents for a year or two after college, but it accomplishes the same thing without having to live in a van.

Weighing living in a van vs ridicule by anonymous Internet people for living with parents... tough choice.
