Living and Working in Vegas

I don't know if thier are any Vegas ATers out there but I'm looking for some insight in areas to look for renting in Vegas area. I got a unique job opportunity at UNLV (university of nevada at las vegas) lasting a year -possibly longer - but i havent really been anywhere apart from the strip and northwest vegas which seemd kinda exclusive. The lady that hired me said look to south east and it looks alright but hoping to get a few more opinions.

Any thoughts/ideas/recommendations appreciated.

My grandpa lives in an apartment in North Vegas and he said theres been a lot of break-ins & other crime in north vegas. Some other people I know live south of the strip and it seemed like a nicer area.

I heard traffic will be horrible. Any idea what your work schedule will be like?

Yeah so I have heard that the traffic is not fun and from what i experienceed flying out at around 5pm on a tuesday it wasn't going to be an easy commute.
I most likely would do 8-5 shifts possibly coming a bit earlier to go to the gym.

My folks live in the green valley area, and I lived there through middle and high school. It's still a nice area and if you're near the I-215 you can get anywhere in the city pretty fast (except maybe the extreme north since it's the southeast corner).

If you're going to be working at UNLV, green valley (SE part of the valley) would probably be a good place to look for a home. The NE has high crime and so does central Vegas. Pretty much the whole west side is nice (far NW / Aliante / Centennial, Summerlin, SW / Mountain's Edge), but getting to work might become a headache because of traffic if you live on the west side. Yes, look for a place in green valley.
