Living alone - worth the cost?

Eventually everyone grows out of the roommate situation. Unless you live somewhere ridiculously expensive.

It is worth it.

I lived with room mates for about two months. That was 59.5 days too many.

They were decent room mates.. quiet.. no parties.. but it still sucked ass. I'll never live with roomies again if I can help it.

I lived with roommates till last year (i'm 27). I have a place of my own now and love it. There are a ton of benefits:
-Do whatever I want
-Watch whatever I want on tv
-Not have to worry about cleaning up after others or dealing with their mess
-Having an entire fridge to myself and not have anyone eat my food without asking
-Walk around naked
-Buy nice things and not have to worry about them getting broken or abused
-Be the only person using utilities
-Have friends or girls over with no privacy issues

Cons:
-Costs more, but there are good deals out there
-Can get lonely or boring at times
-I still have neighbors, so still some noise issues.

Lived with roommates all though college and loved it because we were all friends and hung out all the time. Shortly after though the room mate thing got tiresome, and the GF and I got our own place.

If you are the type of person who likes their own space, and you can afford it without breaking the bank I say go for it. And just because you live alone doesn't mean loneliness automatically. If you have your own place, you can invite your own friends over whenever you want.

Of course if you have a GF/spouse you get the best of both worlds, but you cant really put up want ad's for "live in girlfriend" now can you... 😛

I don't get the 'weird alkemyst thing' wanting your own place, but then I don't understand grown men doing half the shit that goes on here. Stuff I did at 12 and 13 years old...

Its more awesome to live with your wife who cooks, cleans, and provides meaningful conversation and companionship.

On second thought, eat out a lot and get a dog.

I don't get the 'weird alkemyst thing' wanting your own place, but then I don't understand grown men doing half the shit that goes on here. Stuff I did at 12 and 13 years old...

Dude, they're still talking about the cancer insurance thing. Did you have cancer insurance at 12? 😱

summary:

1) in a computer forum where a majority of posters are probably introverts, living alone is great.

2) for extroverts needing lots of social, roommates are the way to go.

3) Ignore Mr Whistle Blower till he tells us what exactly he did?

Instead of roommates...I upgraded to a girlfriend. I got sex, she cleaned bathrooms, and the laundry was done. Sure I gave up the always available video game buddy and she didn't have the same appreciation for flatulence and beer can houses...but it wasn't a terrible decision.

Seriously though...I'm not somebody that enjoys living alone. I need "alone" time...but like having somebody else around emotionally and financially.

Yeah I bet that shit didnt last.😛

Marriage started off real 1950s Now I do the cooking and cleaning. My only "rule" is I'll never do laundry.

Dude, they're still talking about the cancer insurance thing. Did you have cancer insurance at 12? 😱

When I was 18 I bought the plan, it's $8.90 a month and cashable at retirement.

I listed all the possibilities...

This kid is better off living with a bunch of dudes to keep the friday night circle jerk interesting.

What the fuck is cancer insurance?

Anyway, I live with the wife and son and while I enjoy time to myself (and never get it) it sure beats an empty house.

But living with strangers...fuck that. I did it for 6 months and never again. I'd rather have a lot less money and my freedom.

it's just an extra expense...I was listing all my possibilities not saying what everyone should have.

It's amazing you have a kid getting focused on something so petty.

anyways cancer insurance works well in a place like Florida for someone that's outside a lot (unlike you pasty fucks that think going outside is sitting in front of a Barnes and Noble being emo).

If I were to get any type of cancer (including skin) that has to be removed it's a $50k payout. If I don't get it, I can cash out the policy at 68 or something for about 4 times the pay in...not a really good yield but not a horrible plan.

You people need to get out more.

LOL holy fuck dude you pay $10/month for cancer insurance AND you have health insurance? Hah.

Wow...college really paid off for you even after I explained it.

The cancer insurance is a 'payout' plan. In the event of getting cancer I am paid $50k. It's a cash reward, not for treatment.

If I don't use it I cash the policy out later in life.

Last I checked cancer was a highly probably way of one dying...even if I just get it I am in the money.

It's like a lottery and obviously if I needed the $9 a month that badly I wouldn't be throwing it away on this.

I bought a house and had my cousin living here for a while. He moved out and it's pretty nice. Not that having him here was bad, but it's nice to be able to relax.
