If only I could "get by" on $150k per year. I didn't read enough to notice what kind of cars they drive or what their house cost. That's probably where it's going. Or they have a bad drug/alcohol problem.

if you really think about it, $150k isn't really a ton of money or makes you rich. think how quickly you could spend that. ESP. after taxes!

150k =28% tax bracket, but we'll 30% to keep it simple. .7 * 150K gross = 105K net

105k net/12 months= 8.75k a month net. If you can't live very well on that, you've got a problem. Hell, you could have a 400k 30 year mortgage and still have close to 5k a month.

So sell the rentals and the husband could get a job. Family of four here with both working making much less. We survive with some of the crap they're cutting out. They need to quit complaining.

How the fsck can you "just scrape by" on $8750 a month? :confused:

Edit - Yes, I've read the article. I know why, but it boggles my mind why they aren't doing anything about it.

Around here it would be tough for a family of 6 to get by on $150k a year, even without the drain of the empty rentals. Good luck buying a house in a decent school district making that. Cheapest I've seen is a 2BR fixer for $850k. Not all that much cheaper in the crappy school district areas either.

The family in the article basically lives in Omaha. Supporting a family of 4, we scraped by on $25-30k a year in Omaha for a couple years.

agreed, my parents make less than that combined, and we have a vacation house and a boat and are living quite comfortably, while putting two kids through college. it's all about proper money management and savings. granted, life can throw you curveballs that nobody expects, but barring those few cases, living on that amount of money should not be a problem.

Seriously... are Californians so clueless about the rest of the country that they think NEBRASKA is at all similar to where they live? :confused:

Yeah, thats 3 times what expect to be making out of college, and honestly I think 50k a year is more than enough for a small family. Personally, I am the member of a family of 6, and my dad makes ~100,000$/year and we have a 2500 sq ft house (2.5 bath 4 bedroom), 3 cars, 2 kids in college (Vanderbilt and MIT aint exactly know for being cheap). I consider myself to be INCREDIBLY fortunate to live in a household that makes that much money, and honestly I cannot even begin to imagine how someone could consider themselves unfortunate to live on a six figure income when 99% of the world does not have this luxury. I understand that in some parts of the country money isn't worth as much as in other locations, but 150,000 should be enough what part of the country you live in.
