I have a live and am very happy with it, but I heard that the AE is very good too... sooooo if you like the software that comes with the live, then get the live. Otherwise the decision is harder ;)

Oh man, it's not even close. Both the Philips and the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz are better cards. As for the gaming bundle, people are selling them all the time in the For Sale/Trade forum.

This is no Contest.

Phillips without a question though i would take a serious look at the Turtle beach Santa Cruz as well.

Somebody just did a review of the AE which I read cause I WAS GONNA GET IT AND THE REVIEW sorta made me think it wasn't as good as the SB for games. You'd probably find it if you searched the last couple a weeks of News off Anand's main page.

edit: here.

"This sounds stupid but which has better sound quality? "

That's not a stupid question. I have never used a Santa Cruz, so I can't comment on that card. I have used the SB Live, SB Live 5.1, and the Philips AE and the AE has the best sound quality by far, IMHO. The Live's are in my closet gathering dust and the AE is in my rig being used..nuff said. ;)

Neoseeker just did a review on the Santa Cruz... I posted it up on TweakMax just now. So if you've never heard of it you can take a look. All 3 are good cards. Id go with the Accoustic Edge myself.

Moonbeam: the review you posted is a little out of date, it was done in december before several driver updates.

it also calls itself a preview..

I think the 3dsoundsurge review is the latest one, and it also seems to be the most complete, but neoseeker has links to a bunch of other reviews if you want to read more about it

I just ordered the card last week

The AE by far. I have an SBLive! Value....the AE has better sound quality and more features (Digital I/O and QMSS would be my two favourites), it also has full support for EAX and A3D 1.0 so it is at least as good in games as the SBLive!

<< I never heard of philips.. >>

How is that possible???? They are relatively new in the sound card market I suppose...but they are one of the biggest electronics companies on the planet. They are up there with Sony. Every heard of SPDIF? Sony Philips Digital Interchange Format. Sony and Philips also co-created the CD...philips is a HUGE company man...and they bring their expertise in audio equipment over to the PC.

Creative will sell on brand recognition, but feature to feature there is no comparison. ;) I'm sure creative will come out with something new...eventually....and the SBLive! is not a *bad* card by any means, as I said I use one myself. But it has a hard time competing with the AE, or even the Vortex2. Unfortunately Creative can't just buy out Philips like they did Aureal.

(conspicuous by it's absence is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, I've never heard one, and for stuff like this reading reviews can't really tell you whole story so I won't comment on the 'Cruz)

gtd2000: i got my AE fr $89.99 from outpost.com. They used to offer free overnight shipping for all orders, but now only on orders above $100. I just ended up getting a spindle of Kingston cdrs to push past $100. I'll be getting my AE in tonight.
