LIVE from Hawaii . . . Pipeline is going OFF!!!

apoppin

Just a head's up for surfers . . . Pipeline is giving a show today with some really nice barrels . . . there is also a Gotcha-sponsored World class surfing contest at the same time.

For a live look . . .

So far, I am in Hawaii almost 7 weeks. Weather is perfect (it was rainy) and surf is good. I'm grabbing my board and DVC and heading for Ehukai Beach to video the surfing (and then to a beach with less serious waves for me to surf - good news, my therapy is workiing!).

🙂

Aloha

I forgot to mention . . . since were dealing with sets of waves . . . you might have to wait awhile to see a really spectacular ride or wipeout (the best waves are around 15 feet high breaking in very shallow water over very sharp coral).

I used to live in the 2nd house directly behind the live Pipeline camera a few years ago. And yes, I DID ride big Pipeline and yes it is a form of insanity . . . but what a rush and a ride!

that is soooo sweet that you live there and actually ridden those waves. Is that 15 feet the face value or is that 15 feet hawaiian wave height (ie. 30 foot faces). Man wish I was there to drop in on you. hehe 🙂 upload those videos somewhere we never get hollow waves like that in cal. 🙂

Cool! I'll be in Hawaii from March 10-17th. Going to the Big Island, Kailua-Kona, for a second honeymoon of sorts. We're staying at the Royal Kona Resort. Going to be visiting the volcano and a couple beaches and stuff. If I knew how to surf, I'd be over where you are in a heartbeat. Alas, my chuncky pale butt will be soaking up the rays at Hapuna Beach!

That is fifteen feet from top to bottom. Fifteen feet "Hawaiian Scale" would really be 30 feet. You can't believe 15 feet Hawaiian . . . everything else seems so insignificant . . . especially you.

I have ridden first and second reef Pipe . . . 12 feet Hawaiian - where you are looking down 25' at a boiling shallow reef. I have "made" a wave of this size (which is the surfing thrill of a lifetime to be sooo barreled) and also "wiped-out" on my next 12 footer which is an amazing experience of being pounded into the reef 3 times in a row . . . I came up Ok and was laughing.

Hawaiian Style Power Reef waves in Cali would certrainly include Big Rock, La Jolla (where I really learned to ride after Ocean Beach breaks).

Man I can't wait to go home for spring break. I happen to live in Kona. 🙂 Surf is never as big as Oahu but still fun.
