Yeah I don't get what is the big obsession with that and this is the only forum I've ever seen it.

Funny thing is, if you repost it instead of bumping the thread, then it's a repost, and it just gets locked immediately. So can't win really.

Now I'll probably get an infraction for questioning the moderation lol.

I learned that the hard way, I live in what is considered a slightly higher end, but not rich neighborhood. Basically not a ghetto, but not a super target either. Yet thieves check all the cars every night. Forget to lock your doors ONCE, and you're getting stuff stolen. These are lazy thieves though, they don't really break into anything they just go for unlocked stuff, which is good in a way... I did forget my garage door opener in the car though, and got that stolen. They were probably going to come back later to empty the garage, but I disabled it and chained the door shut, I just operate it manually now.

One of these days I do want to put cameras - maybe even some in the house as extra precaution if someone did break in... but none of this ridiculous cloud stuff that anyone can access. I'd need to VPN in to access them. They would also be on a separate vlan that can't access the internet or the rest of the network, just the DVR. Actually, they don't even need access to the DVR, as the DVR accesses the cameras, not the other way around.

I do have a security system now though, so I doubt thieves would try to even get in knowing it's risky.

Jeeze. I lock my cars about 50% of the time. My neighbour left the roof of her car down and it started raining I was going to give her a shout but I realised that the keys were in it so I just put the roof up. If I had to guess I'd say that about half of the front doors here are unlocked.

Yeah sadly crime here has been going up especially theft, the Canadian stereotype of leaving doors unlocked does not apply much these days. Violent crime is generally low but even that has gone up. There was a murder about a year ago, and a few years back, and a few years before that... seems to be one every couple years now while before it was one every decade.

What sucks is cops don't/can't do much. My boss was sorta a victim himself. Someone stole a jeep and crashed it through his neighbour's property and it ended up hitting his truck into his car. Like they rammed that jeep at full speed. Even took a concreted post right out of the ground in the process. Everybody who got damage was on the hook for it. Ex: had to go through their insurance. The car was a "project car" so had no real insurance other than bare minimum so that it's road legal. the theives should be held fully liable in this case but instead they just get a tap on the wrist and sent on their way. It's ridiculous.

But God forbid you pile snow 1 inch over the sidewalk. That's going to be a huge fine.
