he hypocrisy of these shows is utterly astounding.

Lemmings like you and I are supposed to reduce and conserve our energy consumption and our use of non-renewable resources. The celebrities and politicians behind these shows get to continue flying in their private fossil-fuel burning jets, stay in presidential suites at hotels that consume enough energy to power a small neighborhood, yet can call it even because they performed for a few hours at a rock concert which will change no minds present (those that are there are just their for the music, or they are already "aware" of the issue) and yield no lasting change.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering exactly how much energy was consumed by the show itself...I mean the electricity needed to power all the equipment has to come from somewhere...and what about all the trash that will get left behind?

Moron Kayne West.

It's so funny when they get rappers to go on stage with people like Sting. It's so obvious he never heard "Message in a Bottle" so his whole routine is just, "Yeah-Yeah. Uh-Huh. Up here with Sting Yo. Message in a Bot-Bot-Bot-Tel. Yeah!"
Wow the quote thing works now, sweet.

Anyway, I was watching the show at the bar last night but they didn't have the volume up (plus the band playing there was loud) but I was wondering what song he was fucking over at the time. What a shame... man Kanye sucks a boatload of dick.

Kanye is a moron. He learned about blood diamonds and human rights violations LONG AFTER he made his song about diamonds. A supposedly socially aware artist should have common knowledge.

The hot British Chic was the first act yesterday and her name is KT Tunstall...

I was at the concert at Giants stadium yesterday and it was way better than I expected. Bon Jovi completely rocked the place and Roger Waters and Sting (with the exception of the Kanye cameo) were superb as well.

Videos and pics from the concert soon...

Concept of the show was pretty lame. Actually, I'll just say it now, I'm getting pretty sick of this "Al Gore: Environmental Superstar" turd. I remember the uproar when he had a freaking speech at my college a few months back, and his movie. For effs sake, do we really need him to "champion" the cause which is just another fad only 10 people really care about... Venting cycle completed.

As for the concerts, what a load of turd;). Only one worth watching was the one in New York, and even then, the only acts worth mentioning were Kelly Clarkson and Smashing Pumpkins (they need more guitar...).

Do concerts like these really do anything to help causes? I bet the concerts use more electricity, resources, than an African country in a day.

Bill Gates can give Africa $50 billion to Darfur and it probably still won't solve its problems!
bringing awareness to people and spreading humane ideals is a positive thing.

"awareness" is overrated.
no more people are aware after these concerts than before. people aren't that stupid. these concerts are actually a bit condescending really.

I've just read through this whole post, and I can't believe how sick it makes me feel.

Some people really seem to have some misguided notions...

Why the F should the decisons of Al Gore's adult, making-his-own-choices son really reflection on Al?

What big movement hasn't been championed by someone, and why not Al Gore?

How would you suggest going about raising awareness? could you reach as many people using less resources? Who's to say the energy consumed in the making of these concerts isn't offset by people actually doing something to make a change.

If you really think that people know much about the causes and effects of global warming, you give people too much credit. the word isn't really out, or people don't care... either way it sounds like the notion needs reenforced.

Interweb critics and toughguys with their bullet-proof idiocy, spreading more idiocy makes me sad. Think for yourself or go read maddox's best page in the universe.

Those are timeless questions that have no answers. 10 years from now these same type of people will likely be making similar comments about some other issue, but I doubt those doing it now will still hold the view they have now. Except for the few who will maintain their position on some false sense of Pride/Ego.

Don't let it bother you too much. "t takes all kinds" some wise person once said.

So... do you do anything besides string together buzzwords into semi-coherence? Shaman Al Gore, huh? Well I'd rather suckle from his teat than be hooked up to whatever IV drip Bush has got you on.

What fucked up priorities. Rage against a movement that can only help in the long run while condoning policies that are harming us RIGHT NOW.

Yes, Truthiness is hard when others insist on the Truth. I feel for you, but mark my words: In 10 years you won't be of the same opinion regarding the subject as you are now.

I'll start acting like Global Warming is a pressing emergency when the people that are telling us that Global Warming is a pressing emergency act like it is a pressing emergency. Until then, I don't need a bunch of elitist hypocrites telling me how to live my life while they guzzle energy with their mansions, multiple cars, and private jets.
