Live! 5.1 or Realtek 650?

My Promedia Ultras will be arriving any day now and I wanna be ready, unfortunately I do not have the cash for an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum at the moment, so for now I am stuck with either a Live! 5.1 or my onboard ALC 650, question is, which should I use? I play games and listen to music, I'm not really into the whole movie on computer thing yet.

Do you actually have a 5.1 speaker setup? If so, the Audigy would be better, if not, then your onboard sound is perfectly fine.

Oops sorry didn't see that. I'm not sure if you will get full positional audio with the onboard sound. I'm guessing that PowerDVD and such can output the correct sound to the correct channels. Games will be another story, as you will be forced to run in software mode for audio. I'm not sure how big a deal this is; hopefully others will know something about this.

The Realtek 650 and newer chips have EAX 1 and 2, and therefore can do positional audio. Most people would probably use the Realtek, but it's subjective. Why don't you try both and weigh-in with your opinion? Peace.

I hate the Realtek ALC650 chip. I've put Live! 5.1's in all my low end nForce 2 systems. The ALC650 DAC has very, very poor output. I use an Audigy 2 ZS and Sennheiser HD-280 Pros on my main computer.
