Little wireless help please

This is the first time I have ever even attempted to set up a network of any kind. I have it to the point where the pc with the wireless card says it is connected to the router I have (both Netgear), but it the wireless pc can't see my wired computer nor can it access the internet. Also, in the router settings it has a place for Attached Devices. It has my wireless pc card there except it only has the MAC address. It doesn't show a device name or IP address. So, I'm kinda stuck here.

So if I get you right you have a green light in your connection from the wireless connected computer? Also is your wired computer getting internet? Check and make sure that you have both computers running in the same network. I.E in windows 2000 or xp right click on My Computer and look under the Network Identification tab to make sure the Workgroup listed is the same for both.

Yes, I have a green light. Yes, my wired computer is getting internet (I set the router up quite a while before I had a chance to install the wireless card to make sure it worked). Yes, both computers are using xp pro and yes both have the same Workgroup.

The only thing left I can think of is security- but if you had wep configured wrong you wouldn't have the green light. You might try resetting the router to factory defaults and/or updating it to the latest firmware. My Linksys router wouldn't work till I reset it the first time. Is your wiireless computer set up to get an IP automatically? I don't imagine why but if you had it set with a static IP it might give you this kind of error.

Apparently it was something with the security. As soon as I disabled WEP on both the wireless card and the router I got internet for the wireless. Now, how to get them back on without losing the internet again :/

If it's now workign fine, just start setting up the things you turned off one by one until you find what's breaking it. Then you know what the problem is.

Turn on WEP on the router and give it a key. THen setup the profile on the client and enable WEP and use the same key. If it stops working then something is being setup wrong or is physically bad.
