Little trick to lower your system temp to 1~2 degree C.

If you are using mini ~ midtower case w/ single fan PSU, then just take the PSU's cover off.

Most of PSU looks like this. Just take the cover off the PSU, and then cut the fan guard. (notice the fan guard seems to block most of Air-out vant?)

I have done that w/ all my system since last year, and it will NOT effect the PSU cooling. Not only you can increase the airflow but also less noise.

I'm pretty sure the case is on the PSU for a reason. I believe it's called a Faraday cage. Not to mention the amount of electronics that are in there and if something should go wrong, you would have a bigger problem on your hands.

I don't think it could be THAT damaging but I would keep it on for safety reasons. Is 1-2c really worth the risk?

Good point, but what is it that "should go wrong"?
1-2 degree might not worth the risk (if there is any significant evident) , except people do spend so much extra just to lower 1~2 degree.

Ya got me. I'm just the paranoid type :p

I have heard of people had smoke coming from PSUs and I have seen several fried PSUs from thunderstorms and such (including one of my own). I am not sure that it would affect anything by having the cover off but I am not an electrician by any means.

I know enough that I shouldn't take the cover off and be poking around the capacitors with my fingers but aside from that, my knowledge = zip.

If those hardcore people feel it's worth it just to squeeze out that extra degree or so, by all means go for it!

the case on the PSU is there to keep people out of it, it is not a faraday cage by any means.

I do this to all my systems, good tip :)
