Little neighborhood devils keep tossing rocks at my house!

What should I do? I live in a condo association, and the rules say these rug rats aren't supposed to be able to walk around without their parent's supervision--but I live in South Florida, so naturally nobody is supervising their children. These 3 little kids, look like their ages range from about 5 up to 10, casually toss little rocks at my window when they walk by.

For months now I used to think it was just stuff falling off of the palm trees here or something because of the high winds near the lake, but then last month I heard 2 "cracks" at the window in quick succession, so I jumped out of my seat and flung open my blinds to see those 3 squirts running away. Hmm. So I waited for an hour, hoping to catch them with my own eyes throwing the rocks--sure enough, the little bastards came back about 40 minutes later and tossed another rock at the window--I jumped up and caught them getting ready to throw another but they saw me and took off. I was so pissed, I went out looking for them--didn't know what I was going to do. My brother told me I shouldn't go near them because in this day and age, they or somebody else, would swear up and down the bible that I assaulted the little rug rats or something, so I gave up looking for them. I just decided to wait outside on my porch and hope that they came by or something and tell them to quit it.

Just as I figured, the little bums came by again, acting like they were innocent angels, and hadn't a clue what was going on. I told them that I saw what they did and to cut it out. They just sort of played like they didn't understand english or something. I told the condo association about the problem, because quite frankly, if they keep it up I'm certain they're going to end up smashing the damn window. Unfortunately, the association reps just sluffed off my complaints.

What should I do? Call the cops?? The cops around here probably wouldn't give a flip about it either because the kids are so small. Just today the little bastards tossed another stone at the window. Argh.....this is one time I wish I were a kid so I could just go out there and beat up on the little bastards with my friends. 🙁:beer:

Call the cops. Register the complaint. Every time they throw a rock, call the cops. That way there is a history file so when they break the window, they might actually do something about it.

Ahh, might be the ticket. Don't have a video cam...I'll have to either beg a friend who has one or find something on eBay....

Video Tape them, then bring it to the parents. Hopefully that addresses it. Advise you'd rather not have to charge them for a replacement window... etc.

Is there any chance they are throwing rocks at only your window, perhaps you have done something to annoy them/their parents and they are trying to get back at you. In which case I might suggest selling your house and moving somewhere else, maybe an 'active-adult' community. There are plenty of those in Boynton Beach and Delray.


Saw your reply on no video cam, how about just a regular 35mm or polaroid or digicam of them outside with the rocks throwing them, that ought to be enough to get the parents to wise up.

Homeowners/Condo associations. Neighborhood Nazis! THEY can do anything but dont you dare!!!

Idiot children of above.

I'm not an old man or anything--just 24. No, I think they do it because the way the place is set up, I live in one of the "luxury" condos on the end of the building, next to the lake. So when they walk down towards the gate exit and pool, they walk by my home. Right next to my home the association has been building some parking garages/storage rooms (bastards stole our parking spaces and want to charge us to park now), so the kids have easy access to lots of little pebbles and stones and stuff. I observed them, and I think they're just a combination of bored/neglected/badly behaved-- they were just kind of aimlessly walking around trying to rip down the branches from small trees, set off fire alarms, trying to open the valves on the water hydrant hook ups on the side of the wall, chasing the ducks...you know, that sort of mindless crap. Like I said, their just little kids--I've never met them, nor done anything around here that would lead to this aside from just "being" here. I'm sure they probably toss rocks at peoples cars and crap too, but nobody would know unless they saw them.
 
Calls the cops for sure. Whatever you do, don't let them get away with it else you'll be supporting them to reach higher levels of criminal activity when they get older.

I think my brother has one of those cameras with a rapid shots ability-- think I'll go that route, and show it to the association then tell them if they don't do anything I'll call the cops and show it to them. I have no clue who or even if these kids have parents here--for all I know, they could be somebody's friends walking in from outside. It's a big place unlike where I used to live. I don't even know where the little buggers live because they run around between buildings all over the place. lol
 
if their on a sidewalk by your place/yard or whatever, get a huge sprinkler and turn that bitch on next time you see them walking by....
 
Association probably won't know who they are either. The cops won't likely do much if there's no damage, but if they are trespassing and they happen to be there and see it, they'll kick them out.

Maybe sit out in your car and watch them, then when they do the bad stuff take the pics and then follow them for a bit (if possible) to their house. Odds are they'll go there if you are tailing them. You can try and chat up some neighbors to see if any of them are having similar problems and maybe band together.

Just be cautious what you do, if you just yell at them they are likely to just be more sneaky about it next time.
