I don't know why everyone loves Little Miss Sunshine so much. It was a good movie, but people are just nuts about it apparently. Nominated for best picture, I think 2 or 3 best actor Nominees. I assume more people will agree that it's overrated... I haven't met anyone who really loved the movie, and I haven't met anyone who hated it. It's an averagely good movie.

I enjoyed it. It was extremely above average, especially since it was produced on such a low budget. I'd give it 4/5 stars.

My first thought at the climax was "pedophile convention" though. Kinda sad that competitions like that actually exist for girls that young. Movie did a good job of mocking them though :)

Crash was waaaaaay overrated.

I'm watching Little Miss Sunshine now, and it's a lot better than Crash at least.

I saw it opening night and havent seen it since. The script failed this movie, though the original idea may have been okay. For a small budget film, that is inexcusable. Each character was obviously crafted not for realism, but to push the plot and humor. Each scene was setup for the same reason. All I did was watch someone's work who thinks they are MUCH more clever than they really are.

I give it one star.

I thought it was a moderately charming movie. it wasn't an empty experience, the movie had some things to say about success, failure, family. there were some 'off' moments but also some great moments (like the conversation on sarcasm). I'd give it 3.5/5.

I thought Crash was a 'great' movie, not one of my favorites, but it was a great movie. It's hard to say a movie is "not Oscar worthy" because a lot of lame movies get oscars. Didn't LOTR 1 and 3 win best picture? I mean...they were good and all, but jeez :p - I guess we're too greedy wanting more great movies and less average movies. Little Miss Sunshine was a good movie, and I enjoyed it alright.

I hope The Departed wins.

I suppose it is a great movie in comparison with much of the pap that is out there.

crash got the oscar nod because a bunch of old farts in Hollywood (the blue rinse set) couldn't stomach the thought of voting for a movie celebrating male-male love.

Not this crap again, you said yourself that Brokeback Mountain wasn't that good (I think I liked that movie more than you did).

Just finished Little Miss Sunshine by the way... what an odd ending. Although I suppose I should have expected that.

I thought it was eh. I think without carrell the movie would've sucked. it seems so blah I can't think of the word for it.

LOTR 2 and 3 were nominated for best picture but only part 3 won. competition was pretty eh. Lost in Tranlation, seabiscuit, master and commander and mystic river.

If the Departed wins best picture, I wonder if any recognition will be given to Infernal Affairs.

I thought that the little girl's reaction when she found out that she was going to complete in the beauty contest was funny and this scene was the main reason I finished watching the movie.

I will not watch it again and I am not sure I could recommend it to anyone. I found it to be really dark, too dark for my tastes.

I'm surprised that you found the movie to be dark. I thought the movie was a celebration of family (the people who will accept you or see value in you when the rest of the world has discarded or dismissed you). It is also about 'success', and how there are different kinds of success, and how even if the world does not see your value you can still achieve a kind of success by being true to your own goals or dreams. i.e., the little girl is fat and plain, but her family supports her and she stuts her stuff on stage in that crazy final scene. it is a victory for her, even if the rest of the world (excluding her family) thinks she is fat and crazy. themes of success and failure run through the entire movie. like the uncle losing the title of foremost proust scholar in the usa. or the teenage boy not being able to become a fighter pilot. the message seems to be that you can achieve other kinds of 'success' even in the face of failure. which seems to me to be a positive message. so I wouldn't describe the movie as dark, at all.

I saw it last night and while it had it's moments it was nothing special.

Frankly Carrell had only one good scene (the pier) in the whole flick and even then it didn't take advantage of his ability for awkwardness...
The plot was weak.
The grandfather had potential.
The cinematography had potential.

....it had potential, but it was so blaze.....it had nothing holding it together except a minute feeling of responsibility o nthe part of the viewer to follow ms sunshine to her conclusion.

I'll admit her bit at the end made me laugh, but that was it.

So much potential..wasted.

Definitely overrated. Some good parts but felt contrived and tried to be quirky, but wasn't that original.
