Little kid destroys a store on video

A perfect example of how excessive lawsuits are fucking over society. For the kid to do this he's probably mentally ill or has had an abusive past, so I'd probably rather see his parents killed than him, but it is so wrong that there is an entire protected class of citizens immune from punishment/consequences.
 
Ah, I guess it wasn't the father then. Kid seems to have some emotional problems - I can't believe he didn't have a parent present in the store.
 
Pretty sad that everyone is scared to stop him because of the potential lawsuits (and I don't blame them), that's the kind of society we live in today.

The kid should be forced to pickup every single item and put it back where it goes, and there should be a couple big guys behind him to keep him in check and intimidated the whole time. Though, the kid is probably smart enough to know that nobody is actually going to hurt him, so not sure if this would work.

No, he's not mentally ill. You can see that he does HAVE the ability to reason when he raises some item at the person recording, the person recording tells him that if he hits him he will get his ass kicked, and the kid decides not to hit him.

This is just a simple case of a total lack of parenting. If he was mentally ill, he would have gone ahead and hit the cameraman and gotten said ass kicking.
 
There wasn't a single person in that store who gave even the slightest thought to lawsuits or liability issues when they decided to do nothing about that kid. It's what we do these days - we don't get involved. I'm sure many of the workers in that store would rather just not fight the kid. Wait for the police, clean up afterward. It pays just the same.

A little while ago some ~10 year old kid on a scooter was on the periphery of my college campus, shoving random people. An old man tried to pin him in when the little shit shoved his wife, and he was absolutely pissed, but he didn't touch the kid. Lawsuits were the first thing that came to my mind when I saw it, and I'm sure that's the case for many. Do you think just out of nowhere people stopped caring about other people for no reason? Not to diminish the existence of the bystander effect, but afaik that is nothing new as well.

I guess that sounds legit, although I think there's probably a potential middle ground where a person's fear of punishment is diminished without completely eliminating the fear response. Maybe just a combination of someone having a naturally defiant personality without being actually insane, made much worse through poor parenting.

cant tell, he may be mixed race. there is some interesting studies out there about the relationship between mixed race children amd behavior disorders ( not to derail with off subject info)
Child psychology is an awesome field

its not just lawsuits..its involving yourself in the drama of his family. If he isnt harming anyone, other then a massive cleanup, i am sure i wouldnt have stopped him either. Its the store owners responsibility and authority to say who can be present in the building.


I dont see how anyone could be sued succesfully though for getting involved and stopping what is clearly a crime in progress.

I hate this mamdated reportimg shit. People are so afraid of DFS and the police knocking on tbeir door and asking questions.

The problem is you don't have to be sued successfully. The kids parents could sue the guy and he would have to go out and pay for a lawyer and show up in court etc etc. He might not have that money to even fight the case.

If you're lucky, you live in a state with Anti-SLAPP laws.

Not much they can do except call the police. Employees can't drag a kid around or bear hug him to calm him down.

Totally this. Kids will do whatever the heck they think they can get away with. This kid will continue to act out until the punishment is painful enough for him to stop.

Nobody ever learned to not touch a hot oven until they got burned that first time. This kid has obviously never been burned.
