Little help please: No sound in .avi's

The Sauce

Hey, I just downloaded a bunch of old Ren and Stimpy flicks and in about half of them I can't get any sound. I have all the latest DIVX codecs installed. WMP for XP says its downloading the codec but I still get no sound when its done...and it does that every time I try to open the vid. I tried opening it with the DIVX player and same thing. Any ideas?

BTW - In the files I can't get sound on it says "Windows Media Audio - V2" in the properties. The ones I can play say "MPEG Layer-3"

Sounds like you're missing at least one codec. Try grabbing Nimo's Codec pack (just do a google search) and it'll have virtually everything you need.

One thing you can try, is to open the *.avi file in notepad and look in the first few lines of charaters. It will look something like this...

IFFÊ4 AVI LIST8 hdrlavih8 k ? ? ` ð ¼wb{À/# dsLIST| strlstrh@ vidsDIV4 ? Þ L ` ð strf( ( ` ð DIV3Þ LISTh strlstrh@ auds A ¿ DIV3
will tell you in text what video and audio codec (respectively) is required for that particular clip. You can then look that codec up and make sure you have it installed.

Good Luck! 🙂
