I swear the lady at the door sounds just like a parrot with his crackly highpitched voice.. "hello and welcome to walmart!" and "Have a nice day!"

If you need to spend 10 cents on Walmart Kool-aid instead of popping the extra dime for actual Kool-Aid, it might be time to get a 2nd job.

One piece of (Branches?) candy by pound. 2 cents

(Yep, friend bought one as a joke.. on a side note, we put a tire on layaway that day too)

Why? They're both most likely identical... even made in the same factory.

IIRC the greeter job has the highest job satisfaction of any Walmart job. Most are otherwise unhireable retirees who would otherwise be sitting at home alone, or in a group home. The greeter job gets them out of the house and plenty of human contact. Stop and talk to one for a bit next time you see one. They love the conversation and have the typical wisdom and stories most elders have.

did you just wake up today and decide on being a jackass or is it a daily thing?

whenever i used to go to walmart back in the day, i always remember them being elderly people who would either sleep or not really pay much attention to you unless you were carrying something into the store to return it or something.

i do agree that it's a good way to get elderly people out, though. human interaction is very important for elderly people... whenever they have so many medical and physical problems and their friends are dying off, they get lonely and feel like a big burden... having this job helps them have a sense of worth, i suppose.

edit: by the way, my post was meant as a joke... it wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

That's cool. Most of the greeters here are very energetic and love it when people stop to talk to them. I think it's a great opportunity for them and I commend Walmart and other stores for keeping the positions open even though they are basically useless.

I live for the thrill of making pathetic children throw tantrums. Judging from your response my work is done for today.

Brand names are for suckers (for a lot of stuff at least)

At our closest walmart unfortunately most greeters right now seem to be some of the stockers/cart retrievers and sometimes a part-time department employee. Seems here they have moved away from the older people. The biggest job these days is chasing people down concerning the 'walmart inventory control system'.

I do remember one day when an older guy we used to buy our cars from at a local dealership retired and showed up there as a greeter. He loved that job. Knew a lot of people too.

Hey remember when you read the OP and it was about finding the cheapest item in the store and had nothing to do with greeters?

Check out the fabric section. I have seen squares of felt for $0.09.

I suddenly want to go train a parrot to say that, and have it stand in as a greeter.

Just you wait, when they discover that having a trained parrot is a lot cheaper than paying a person, you'll see Greeter Parrots at every Walmart.

Well done, good sir! On to your next thread, and godspeed!

Probably. Remember the whole peanut butter fiasco? It affected Peter Pan brand and Great Value, with the same lot numbers - hmm, I have a distinct feeling that both were made in the same factory.
Maybe it's just the slightly lower-grade stuff that the brand-name company doesn't feel confident enough to put their own corporate logo on.

Keep in mind, just because it's made at the same factory, doesn't mean it's the same recipe. Other than that, you are correct. The great value peanut butter with code 2111 (the code of the Georgia plant that makes ALL peter pan peanut butter) was the one contaminated. However, not all great value peanut butter was affected, because it is not all made at that plant.
