Little Big Planet.

So.. a 95 on Metacritic? Gotta be great, right? The zero puncuation review was fairly lackluster. Looks like something I could get a girlfriend to play with me.. maybe.. but aside from that, is the game really any good if I don't plan to spend hours designing levels?

girls will like..

very simple and very creative games. great lvl design. some of the user made lvls are sweet.

but its a very simple platform type game

Yes, it's fun, especially with friends around. Up to 4 friends can jump in and out; there are various paths in the levels that require a certain number of players to accomplish them.

I was skeptical at first, but I decided to give it a shot when it was around $25 online. Definitely a fun, high quality game.

Or, you know, maybe you could just...

I kid, I kid.

I truly hope you're not using yahtzee's reviews as a serious basis for video game opinions. His stuff is purposely harsh for entertainment purposes. If you took him seriously for everything then you'd never pick up a single game as it's always about the bad shit.

While he's absurdly sarcastic and much of what he says is hyperbole.. I really tend to agree with him almost 100% on his reviews. I think the only review where we really had a difference of opinion was on The Witcher.. but what he said was still true.. I just liked it for the reasons he disliked it.

Wait, do you even have a girlfriend? lol the way you wrote that makes it sound like you might just go obtain one once you get the game.

At the moment, no. Just wondering if it's one of those games that I could use as a way to bridge video gaming to the fairer sex. You know.. so you don't always get that disgusted look when you mention having played, or planning to play some games.

I played the beta and loved it. Subsequently bought the game and got tired of it very quickly. Of course, I thought I was going to build more levels than I did, but I just didn't want to put the time into it. Multiplayer was fun, but it was hard to keep everybody together. Plus, the controls were much more floaty than what I would've wanted from it.

We got it from gamefly last friday and so far I really like it. I only have a few nitpicks about the controls... when you push up against something, your character will immediately slip forward (forwarding being out of the TV, towards you) around it... I'd rather he just stood there pushing against it to preserve my sanity but I think I this might be a side effect of how it tries to put you on the correct plane when you're jumping between planes.. In any event, it took some getting used to. Also, everything feels a bit too slippery, sliding to your doom isn't very fun. That said, it's a pretty solid platformer. If you like super mario bros, I can't see why you wouldn't like this and like baked said, if you don't like SMB, you really should just go DIAF.

Also, my gf wont shut up about how cute it is. So far we've spent a good portion of time either dressing up our characters, or 100%'ing levels so we have more stuff to dress up our characters 😱

I hear you can build stuff too.. I want to get into it, but I read somewhere it's better to play through the whole game first so you have shit to build with. My lady being the OCD completionist she is (she's the one pushing the 100% issue, I'd just do speed runs through all the levels if it were up to me) it might be a while before we get there.

Definitely going to be a keeper.

edit: It's slightly less stressful than Street Fighter.. like any good platformer there are some tricky jumps to make that will test your patience and commitment. It gets very tempting at times to just say "fuck this shit" and throw the controller through TV..

I couldn't stand LBP. It's a basic game that I got bored with within an hour. It's marketing hype was all about user generated content. Well I buy games that have great content that is already there. User generated content is extra goodness (custom levels for TF2, mods for PC games, etc), not a fucking selling point.

Thanks for all the replies.. sounds like something that might be worth picking up on sale at some point .. but I don't think I'd spend over $30 for it.

I disagree. Giving the people modding tools and level creation tools is a huge selling point. It tells people that there will always be new content to play, and not a set end to the game.

I beat it, haven't touched it since. Boring game is boring. It's worth 20 bucks though because it is very well done.

yahtzee made a good pointin his review...users aren't professional game designers...most user made content is total crap. you only get a few people out there that actually know what they are doing.

You can sort by most popular levels or highest rated levels. Any not all user created levels are crap. The best user created levels on LBP are absolutely fantastic. There's also a feedback function so the level creator can constantly update their levels based on reviews.
