LiteOn's 32x 12x 40x cd-rw! Someone who has it right now!!!!

Not necessarily. I have a 24x10x40 Liteon and I'm able to burn at 24x speed with 16x Verbatims. The same capability may be possible for the 32x model with 24x CDR's.

Hehehe, I just got a 16x10x40 cdrw a few months ago, said I wouldnt upgrade again until I could get a 32x burner 😛 thought it would be a while😛

If you're near the Los Angeles, CA area, the stores called "PC Club" have them. I saw at least 6 in stock in the Monrovia and the City of Industry stores yesterday.

Yeah i read that last night..i too wasnt too chuffed at its performance...and the 2MB buffer ?WTF ? thats 0.4seconds of buffer at 32x....erm...puuuullleeaseeeee. Even the 24x Plextor had a 4MB buffer, and id be hoping for 8 on their next one if not mroe...the Mitsumi has 16MB FFS !! :|

The performance of the 24x10x40 LiteOn CDRW was pretty good in many reviews, and it's only $80 !!! Seeing how little the performance has improved, you can safely buy a 24x and be happy.

Yeah I've got a 24x liteon burner and love the thing...

Shaving 16 seconds off of making a cd isn't something I'm going to lose sleep over.

That's why I'm sticking with my 12x10x32x SCSI Plextor. Shaving 1 1/2 minutes off a burn doesn't seem too important to me, and it's a better burner than the Lite-ons.

Well, itd be a little bit more than a minute and a half, but lets not quibble 😛

I was intending to get a 32x, but i think ill just get a 24x now probably...though im not sure which...id prefer Plextor, but its cant do 99min cds (though i dont know that ill ever really need to...) and its DAE doesnt seem to be as good as on some of the older Plextors. Who knows, well see.

32X is useless...for one, they don't start 32x, and by the time it reaches 32x spinning speeds, it's nearing the end of the disk (if even the disk supports it)...then there's reliability (CRC) issues from burning that fast in the first place.

it's kinda crazy tho how write speeds are reaching read speeds...

The Mitsumi got top marks for its new 32x burner at CDR Info. If I was to buy a new burner, I think I would buy this one. Otherwise I think I would buy a Yamaha 24x burner cause I hear good things about Yamaha and the price is good too.

The reasoning why the Lite-On burners are so popular is because they're a lot cheaper than most other burners at the same speed, and they can burn basically anything. The 32x Lite-On is around 100 bucks, while I'm pretty sure that comparable Plextor burner would be nearly double that price. Also, the Lite-On burners support correct EFM encoding. This means that with a program like CloneCD you can make 100% perfect, working copies of your CDs. (In particular the Safedisc Version 2 protected CDs, as well as the other types of copy protection out there.) That comes in very handy when you have a lot of CDs that you frequently use. Being able to make back-ups is perhaps the greatest quality of the Lite-On burners.

I will wait until everyone gets the 32X burners in stock, THEN buy the 24X for $40-$60. 🙂

Nack

Truly I find the only time you really need to update your burner is if the old one has either died, or is a lot slower than the one you have now...

For instance I went from a 2x burner, then to a 4x (lol came with new computer so...) and finally I upgraded that to a 24x....

4x to 24x is a major difference and is worthwhile...

<< lite-on 24x burner don't get so good review link >>

That review didn't seem bad to me. Basically they said the drive is a little slower than similarly rated models. The only real dings it got was for poor product support and lack of docs. I'd say most folks reading this forum would take the installation guide and throw it in the trash anyway. Also, this forum is pretty good at product support for just about anything.
