samsung 52/24/52 with 8M Buffer

what about Gigabyte & LG CD Writer ?

I can tell you only that I have the LiteON, and its great. There isn't a mode that CloneCD has that this drive won't support.

I am not kidding. I have a Sony 48x (which I think is based on a Lite-On) and it's clearly audible - although it doesn't sound like a jet. A friend of mine on the other hand just got a new computer (a week ago) with a brand new Lite-On 52x burner and it's not just clearly audible it sounds like a blowdryer turned on the highest level. I'm not joking. 🙂

Don't know about Liteon, but my Samsung gave out in a year. But the RMA service is great. It only took one week to get a replacement.

How long is the warranty with the Samsung? I thought most burners had a warranty of about 6months.
My Liteons have been running strong for a long while and I don't think the buffer makes that much of a
difference when considering a burner now cause a lot of DVD burners have been coming out with only a
2 meg buffer as well.

It's one year, I actually had it for a little over a year, but they still replaced it.

I have a 24x burner from samsung... its a little over 2 yrs old...

Its ben used a LOT ... and not a single coaster yet... so i guess it did pretty good....

The only samsung product i am happy with!

I have the LiteOn 52x CDRW in my family comp and it's been fine. I also have a Liteon 24x CDRW in my own comp, 3 years and still going.

I have the 52x LiteON, and its quieter than my 16x Plextor that I replaced. Not like it matters to me much, if I am playing a game or something where that is a problem, I just get an image of the disk and mount it virtually.

I only use LiteOn so I am a little biased but I use them for a reason because they are good products. If somebody gave me a really discounted rate on a Samsung I wouldn't turn it down but my preference is LiteOn.

I have a Samsung 12x from an older PC I upgraded the burner and was given this drive.. I decided to use it, and it sucks, often won't complete CD's at 12x, but works fine at 8x.. I'd say judging by this experience the Liteons are better, but I don't know what any newer Samsungs are like so I can't say for certain 😛

I've had three or four LiteOn burners and several straight CD Roms and all have been fine. Never burned a coaster that wasn't my fault. As far as the noise... I've seen nothing that was not expected from a 52X except for one time in my P4 machine. The thing actually sounded like it was out of control, so much so that I actually expected the media to splinter and come flying out. Not sure what happened but it only did it once and was without a doubt incredibly loud. You could have heard it from 50' away and that's no joke. I thought about hitting the eject button but didn't trust it to shut down before opening the tray, and there is no way in hell I would have stood in front and let it open at that speed.

I got a samsung don't know which one though. I painted the face so can't see anything. Think it's the 48x model. My DVD drive is a lite-on.
