Why won't this drive read my Blank CD-r/CD-rw media as being in the drive? CD's and DVD's work fine. I can't write or burn anything because it won't recognize it. Please help.

I tried with CD-RW, and CD-R....two different kinds, so I'm guessing that it's not the media.

...I'm guessing that it might be the same. I can't really update the drivers, since it's using the default windows driver. No other drivers are available.

So you're just trying to click and drag files onto the CD drive through Windows, i.e. you're not using any second party software (Nero, EZ CD Creator, etc)?

I'm using Nero. I just did some firmware upgrades, and it's still not recognizing it correctly. I don't know what the deal is. Last time, the "burn" button was availiable, and I clicked it, and it rebooted my computer! WTH is going on?!? :(

You just got an nForce2 board, right? What driver pack did you install? I wonder if this is the silly Performance IDE Driver issue. If so, there's an easy fix :)

Where did you get the drive?
I bought one at WalMart ($87).

It sucked! I don't know why! I couldn't get it to burn either!
So I returned it and bought a Samsung. Still Junk!

So I went to the local PC store, bought a MSI...and viola! No problems!

I'd go download the latest version of Nero first. Old versions of Nero don't work w/new CDRW drives. I had that happen to me once. Here's the Nero update page. Also, in Nero make sure that you go to the "Recorder" menu and select "Choose Recorder". Hopefully your CDRW drive shows up and you can select it. It should work if you do those 2 things... Let us know if it doesn't.

I would also try a different version of nero, since the same thing happened to me after I installed 6.0.0.15. I would try to burn something and it would say there is nothing in the drive, had to eject it and refresh the drive a couple of times before it would detect a blank cdr in the drive, went back to 6.0.0.11 and works without any problems.
