um y in the world are you looking for dirt where there probably isn't any? why don't you investigate microsoft or something.

Well if you don't work for tampax then why did you say you did? I was about to ask you how quality control was done too, but I guess since YOU WERE LYING I won't.

And guys! Take it easy on the guy, people are getting pretty hard on him for saying the word "conspiracy" .. big deal, no reason to belittle him. I've been known to throw that word about a few times 🙂

<< LITEON has been making drives for the OEM market for over a decade. They know what they're doing, and their drives are solid products. >>

No they don't. I had a Lite-On CDROM drive a few years ago, it was the noisiest POS to roll off the assembly line since martha and the vandellas. It was a hunk of junk after 6 months. I'll never buy a Lite-On product again

Good! Someone else knows about it, now I don?t have to hold back the truth in fear the monkeys will get me. While burning a cd one night on my trusty 32x Liteon the light started flashing, it was in Morris code. My burner told me how the evil monkey controlled lite-on corporation was spreading its rebadged drives across the globe and into everyone?s home in some sort evil conspiracy to take over the globe! Then when the master monkey pushes the red button all the burners are going to shoot out the cdroms and use their class 6000 laser against you!!! Quick take out your liteon drives and smash them now! before its to late the world depends on you!

😛

smp, please go over to http://www.snopes2.com/ and read
the linked article. Then you can explain to your friend that the Tampax asbestos hoax is an urban legend
that has been going around the net for years, and is completely untrue.

I made sure to forward that link to my concerned friend. I'm a man, so like, this doesn't affect me directly .. but I care about my women friends.

I'm not convinced Lite-On makes top quality products. I have used 4 Lite-On DVD-ROM's and only 1 works perfectly. 2 worked somewhat, and 1 did not work properly at all. I have also used a number of their burners and they are much better.

BTW, another company that sells Lite-On drives is CREATIVE LABS!!!
(I find this quite humorous since most people flame Creative yet it's the same drive!)

really? if that is true than that is too funny.

I just got my 16x DVD Lite-ON 163D when Dell had that smokin hot deal for under $40 and simply adore it

I guarentee my next burner will be a Lite-On to

That's the one I missed! I remember that POS for not having any buffer underrun protection on their 12X burners. It crapped out on me in after ~3 months, and turned a spindle of CDRs into coasters. It was probably their last major drive mistake. Otherwise, I have had only another liteon drive: a DVD 16X which rips/reads REALLY fast, but it can be very loud. Has anybody had experience with the loud part?

LITEON 24x for those hard SAFEDISK2 backups

"there is no substitute" ok maybe a plextor but why pay more

I cant confirm this but i do distinctly remeber reading that lite-on uses some of the same parts in their CD burners that plextor uses.

I can say this... my LTD 163 (Liteon 16X DVD) rocks! Fastest DAE besides a crappy kenwood, overall excellent drive! Quiet too!

My LiteOn 16X DVD drive came in a LiteOn box and the drive itself has a sticker on the front of it that says "liteonit.com.tw". Very clearly marked IMHO.

It is the best drive I've ever owned. I had a SCSI Plextor 14X32 that died after only ~18 months, so I don't really think their quality is up to par, but the LiteOn is top notch. I can rip DVD's @ ~14X and rip CD's to MP3's @ ~32X. That's FAST!

I have a generic OEM 17" monitor and I was shocked to find out that Liteon makes it. It's a very nice monitor for what it is. It definitely blows the KDS away that I bought on a deal at Office Depot in terms of quality and the picture.
