Perhaps the IDE config? VIA drivers? Its an XP 2000+ in an Epox board with 512MB 2700DDR. I can't even listen to my music anymore while burning.

Sucks to be me I guess.

why, is your system that slow? make sure dma is on. and they aren't on the ame cable.

something is wrong because even when i had my 48x lite-on in my old p3 866 with 384 of pc133 i was getting anywhere from 2:50-4:30, only taking 4:30 when i was putting hundreds and hundreds of small files on there.

bad drive maybe? I'll throw it in another system I have and see if I get the same slow speeds. I only have one HD installed currently and its primary master, cdrw is sec master. I shouldnt be having this trouble. :-/

Do the Memorex drives use the same firmware as the LiteOns? I believe the Cenodynes are rebadged LiteOns as well, but I've read that the firmware is different. Whether that makes much of a performance difference, I don't know.

What media am I usin? Stuff not suggested to be run at 48x I guess. I got some Memorex cd-r's tonite and got my time down to 3:40. Still lags up the machine pretty bad while burning tho. I should just get a copy of XP Pro and do it right, I suppose I could use a change from Win2k. Thanks for all your thoughts guys.

You mean Lite-On hasn't put Plextor out of business yet? :D

burnnig from maxtor 80gb to liteon 52x doesn't lag on my xp2000+. i'm using pos sdram too:p

should only lag if drives are on same cable. or if dma is off

its been nice and quiet compared to the pos samsung 48x i had just b4. no burn failure yet:)

only pain is nero doesn't tell you the real burn speed. just have to sorta guess from time:( under 3 minutes is pretty nice. 24x rw with mt rainer makes the format finally useful!!
