I believe the new memorex's are Lite-Ons, but don't quote me on that, i bought a Memorex 48x and it's a Lite-On, don't know if all are tho.
This drive is pretty sweet, burns around 2:30 for a full cd!

I went with that deal too and I just received this burner. I used the CDR they provided me and was pretty upset at the results. Averaged an 8x burn...which is the same as my old Plextor 8X. Plus it was loud. Hopefully better media will help...but right now i'm kinda upset.

52x burners ARE LOUD...stick with the 48x Liteons unless you are getting a Plextor.

perhaps my 52x is defective?

I currently have a 40x Plextor, 2-40x Liteons, 1-48x Liteon, and a 52x liteon.

It sounds like a jet engine with the 52x and my rig is near silent, papst 12dba fans, panaflo, etc.

For you guys burning at 40X or higher with this burner, how high does the CPu utilization go?? Mine hits as high as 50% :(

Why spend more money when u practically getting the exact same thing for a cheaper price..? its not a car or anything thing that name will make a bid difference..

btw i have had lite-on's(cendyne) 24x, 32x,40x, and now a 52x..and these drive can do anything..the plextor can do..so i dont see the point of getting a plextor..or anyother expensive drive..

Let's get this straight for the Plexy fan boys:

Lite-On outperforms Plextors.

I believe the later generation of Memorex drives were Liteon drives.

yes all later generation memorex drives are now liteon drives rebadged.
I have a retail lite-on 24X burner (for about the past year) and it has been nothing ever except exceptional.
I also have 3 friends, two with 48x and one with 52x adn their results have been splendid as well.

It's about protocol and what the Manufactures lists and offers...If Plextor or Lite-On puts out something @ the same speed no average Consumer will be able to claim this fact in real time... it's about support and noone's going to prove Lite-On beats Plextor in that area so go back to sleep and use 1 fan :p

Currently I have the 52x24x52 Lite-On....I have also had their 16x, x24, x32 and x48.....So far I and my friends I have I have sold them to are satisfied.... SUPER QUIET, FAST, 100% compatible with my Clonecd, Roxio Platinum 5, and Nero...:) I wouldnt get a Plextor because of its price...Lite-On is the way to go (Price/Performance)...
By the way I think Lite-On is the biggest manufacturer of drives now--- their drives are bought and REBADGED by other companies...

I killed 2 of my liteon cdrw's in less than 6 months in 2 machines. They will not be seeing my business again.

I have a Lite-On 48x and I am seeing very little improvement from my Plextor 12x. I'm talkin like 5-6 mins for a full CD. I think I should be getting better times than that. Should I blame the media? Perhaps the IDE config? VIA drivers? Its an XP 2000+ in an Epox board with 512MB 2700DDR. I can't even listen to my music anymore while burning.

Sucks to be me I guess.
