LiteOn 4x DVD+R/RW Drive for $99 shipped

I just bought this for $109.99 from NewEgg with black cover and free NewEgg T-Shirt! It's a solid burner and I can't wait untill the downloadable 411S firmware is out so I can use the Lite-On Firmware Flash utility to upgrade mine to 411S Dual-Burner capability. 🙂

True, but the Optorite seems to be less than 100% reliable.

yeah but you can get the nec nd-1300a which is reliable for about the same price or less.

What's the dell's phone#? Unless it's a typo, this drive is dual-format...

thats saying what formats are READABLE, not writeable(sp?). 🙂

But the NEC doesn't burn CDs as fast. Besides, I believe the Optorite is acutually a Lite-On 411S, I dont have any proof however.

I just got one Newegg.

gwlam12,
Nice review from that site.
That picture shows that the drive can read but not write DVD-R and DVD-RW media.

I'd like to know too. And I've never heard of Optorite...how reliable is it? I know someone said it's less than 100% reliable, but that doesn't say much.

From what I understand, it has major problems burning DVD-R consistently. Media makes a big difference, and also the player that you try to play the DVD in; even the software seems to produce different results for different people. Some people have amassed huge piles of coasters trying to get DVD-R to burn properly. Samsung has acknowledged the problem and is working on a firmware fix. For more details, ask someone who owns the drive or check out the huge thread on the Optorite in this forum.

oh, haha. i thought the check marks in the "write" section were associated with DVD-R and DVD-RW, not CD-R and CD-RW.

first-hand experience? i'd like to know cuz im deciding between nec and optorite. the only downside is it doesnt have the hd burn feature, but i dont really care about that. slower cd burning? doesnt bother me either. anything else i should know?

New low price on Pricewatch.com for the Optorite DD0203 dual DVD±RW is $112 shipped at PCsupplysource.com (you need to use the coupon found under "Description" to get that price).

The price on the Optorite is falling about $5 a week so it will be selling for under $100 in a few more weeks

question, how important is the 8mb buffer. nec has 2mb. optorite has 8mb

It's my understanding that because of underrun protection, it is not a big deal.

I've got the NEC 1300a, it is a rock solid unit, for sure. Have flashed firmware from http://herrie.rpc1.org/ with no problems but have not tried a variety of media yet. I've been burning a 4x with Memorex media.
