Shoot, I didn't realize they linked to manufacturers' sites for the files

I'm trying to look for it on my drives, I flashed mine from OS06 to OS0B just a few days ago. I didn't notice any difference, but maybe it could fix the problem you're having. Mine burns entire CDs in about 5 minutes. What burning software are you using?

edit- stupid me, Nero comes with the drive.. Nero is generally the best you can get, so shouldn't be Nero causing problems. Do you have anything that could conflict with Nero, such as DirectCD, or even InCD?

nero is the only program i'm using.

do you think it's the cables that i'm using? i did enable DMA for the drive.

do you think it's a bad drive?
it's the same model as yours, got it from newegg yesterday

just occured to me, does DMA have to be anabled on my hard drive too?
i'm using win2k and it wont accept DMA for the hrad drive(IWILL KK266 mobo)

I don't think it could be the cable, if it's communicating with the drive fine. However, it's a thing to try, if you have any spare ribbon cables lying around, try it out. It's quite possible you could've gotten a bad drive, it happens with all hardware. Newegg should be able to pay for shipping if you decide to RMA it. What kind of media are you using? Have you tried the one that came with the drive?

Are you trying to burn audio from MP3s? It takes a bit of time to decode them, and I don't think Nero reports that it's decoding. Well I hope you get a good drive in the RMA.

what kind of cd's are you burning in 5 minutes?

Ah, that's probably what's happening. I haven't burned any CDs from MP3s with my Lite-On yet, but burning straight from WAVs and data CDs takes about 4:40 with 650Megs, and 5:10 with 700Megs. MP3 decoding shouldn't take so long, though. Have you watched the entire process, and seen any dips in the buffer? If so, the "BURN proof" feature could make it take that long.

(sigh of relief)

well, i finally fixed my burner. all it all came down to the firmware.i downloaded it from the firmware link you gave me, it's working now. i flashed to the OSOB firmware and now this burner flies. i burned 732 mb of music in 5 min and 10 sec.

i'am just shocked though, i didnt think the huge performance difference could be attributable to the firmware. i am new to this firmware stuff.

but i want to thank you for all your input and suggestions PliotronX
