Lite-On only will write CD-RW.. Won't recognize CD-R

I have a Lite-On 16x10x40x CD-RW drive that recently quit working properly. It will recognize and write to a CD-RW disc, but it will not recognize a blank CD-R disc and needless to say, it won't write to it. I am running Win2000 and using NERO to burn with. I'm running Adaptec's ASPI version 4.71.2. Any ideas?

Have you tried flashing its firmware? Always worth a shot.

Thanks for the link. I had tried to find firmware before, but I was unsuccessful.

I flashed the drive, but that made no difference. Still won't recognize a blank CD-R
