I have a Lite-on 16x10x40 rebadged as a Universal Buslink CDRW, and it works great. I have burned maybe 15 audios and data disks, not 1 coaster yet. I got it at Bestbuy at $90 with a $20 rebate. Cheap does not always mean poor quality anymore. There are lots of good reviews.;)

Do the lite-on's have that buffer under-run protection? or is that standard on all burners 12x or greater?

My friends 16x LiteOn has buffer underrun protection (I cannot remember what they call it though) - its a fantastic drive!

I have the 16101B (16x10x40) drive and I have yet to make a bad CD that wasn't my fault (for not using the right clonecd settings). It has been a great drive, and it is a great deal cheaper than most other drives in its class.

Its a great drive...I'm using the 24x model....burn 80mins of mp3's in a little over 3 minutes. Look around in the hot deals forums for re-badged Lite-Ons that are going for even cheaper than the Lite-On brand drives. I think there are/were a few deals over there for the 24x drives for like $70-80 bucks. I got mine for $96 at NewEgg, killer deal on a great drive.

Yes, check hot deals. Office Max has the Cendyne (Liteon 24102b) for 109-25-20...and I picked it up in the store (B&M) for a final price of $64.99 after Cendyne $20 rebate. Print out OM web discount and see if store will take it...it is up to the manager.

Lite-on..is a big provider of OEM...there cdrw at least recently have been of high quality and excellent performance\

Liteon uses Smart Burn tech..not burnproof..this is sanyo's tech..Ricoh uses JustLink and Acer/Philips use Seamless link...

I believe most 12x + burners use a buffer underrun protection..Yahama had not ..they used an 8mg buffer..
