Lite-On 52x - clicking, lots of coasters

I finally got myself a new CDRW after giving my Plextor to my mum 3 months ago. I got a 52x Lite-On for £30 and I'm starting to wish I stuck with Plextor, even if it would have cost £50 more.

Sometimes while reading, and nearly every time when doing lead in/out the drive starts clicking. If it just clicks for a bit usually the CD can finish burning but if it doesn't then I get the error "Session fixation error", "Could not perform fixation".

I've had it in for about 4 hours. About 20 successful burns and 4 coasters. My old Plextor never made a coaster in 2 years and about 400-500 burns.

I've been told to get it replaced but it makes a racket even at low speeds. I wish I could bring myself to spend £50 more to get a better brand.

Questions for you:

1. What brand media? Are you trying to burn media that isn't rated for 52x?
2. How's your harddrive space / mem usage?
3. Can you exchange the drive? Might just be bad motor or disk tray or something.
4. What CD authoring program?

try a different brand of cdr and look to see if there is a recent firmware upgrade. If all else fails, rma it. Lite-on has a 1 year warrenty on their cd burners.
