Thier email said that mine wouldn't ship until 5/2/02, but low and behold, the UPS man came a knockin' on my door today.

This drive is crazy fast, I love it!! but then again, I had a HP 2x/1x/6x before.

Thanks for the update. I just got my "delay" message and it's probably BS. But, please everyone call Dell and cancel your orders right away :)

well, based on everybody else's posts, i got a little worried so tried calling dell customer service
i had ordered on friday night and only got the initial confirmation

well, the guy on the phonne took a while to find my order, but he found it and gave me both my order and customer number. according to the system, it shows a status of inprocess, and that everything is paid for etc and it is only waiting to be shipped out

i called the dell customer line, 1-800-www-dell, purchase for home (option 5 i think), then all other options (option 7 i think).

hopefully it means i will get my drive soon

Just because you cancelled your order with Dell, doesn't mean it's cancelled, When I ordered my first one last week, I got a email stating that it would be on back order till 4/26, I then proceed to order it from NewEgg, Fedex truck shows up the next day with my CDburner. I ordered a single CDR with this 2nd order, of course I got it today, no email stating a back order on the burner yet though, so I know they have my order.

I put my order in already. The person who found out about this, you RULE. My order came to a total of $80.00. Instead of buying a $.65 CDR, i found a screw for .5 cents. That brought my order to exactly $100. With the two coupons for $10 bucks, I was able to bring it down to $80. THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE "BEST DEALS EVER" DEAL!

Yup. Me too. Got the delay email. I checked the order status on the website and it says "Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order. " It supposed to ship today. Guess I'll have to wait a few more weeks.
Hopefully they were only joking and shipped it early. :D

From past experiences, whenever I get something on backorder... it usally means that it will only take a few more days for them to ship it.

They tend to WAY over estimate the date when the item is expected to ship. Probably to play mind games with us (and they are doing a VERY good job at it...)

Well, I received my 52 cent CD-R (shipped in a big box) minus the drive. The shipping cost is more than the product in it...Dell might as well shipped them together to save on the cost of shipping but I guess in "THEIR ATTEMPT TO FOOL CUSTOMERS IN THINKING THAT THEY HAVE THE 40x12x48x CD-R/RW BURNER IS IN STOCK" they did what they did.

Because then, if they really have it in stock, they would have shipped them together, DUH. Is there a law against merchant advertising next day delivery and not complying without any email notice for the delay?

I got my CDR yesterday. As it happens I'm very glad they didn't ship the drive with it. The box looked like it had been dropped out of a plane. The CDR was fine though.

I ask them about the advertised delivery time about six months ago. They stated it only means how they will instruct the delivery company to deliver it. If you choose over night they will send it via an over night carrier but that it has nothing to do with how long it will take for them to actual get the order to shipping.

Technically correct but deceptive.

When will "In Stock" really mean in stock and ready to ship? Why lie when you can do some honest business Dell without any penalty? Are you really gonna gain a lot of orders by lying that the product is in stock?

Here is the scenario, lets lie about it being in stock and tell them (customers)later about the truth by email. Hopefully, we can get customers to NOT CANCEL and still like doing business with us.Text. Now, isn't that a great plan.

bonkers325 - The drive is a retail Lite-On. The drive that i received was manufactured in March 2002 and came with firmware version ZS08. I went to the Lite-On website and upgraded the firmware to version ZS0A.

Update on my order:

I ordered Friday on the 19th. I finally got a confirmation on the 24th. Ship date for the drive is on or before the 29th. The ship date for the screw is on or before the 30th.

Don't lose hope. Do what I did, order more drives and hope one gets confirmed. Cancel all others.

I ordered mine on Thursday (April 18th) and it is being delayed to the 7th of May. I wonder how they handle the shipping sequence!!

1. Close Eyes

2. Spin around 10 times

3. Point at a ordering number

4. Press the ship button

:)

So, how is this for messed up?

When I was notified the 32X Lite-On cdrw that I ordered from Dell was to be delayed until sometime in May, I promptly called their excuse for customer service :frown: , got a refusal authorization for the cdrs that had already shipped, and cancelled the balance of the order. All is well right? Nope. Today, I get a package from some unknown vendor that required no sig via UPS. Lo and Behold! a 32x Lite-On burner in the box. I accepted this package with no qualms as I have several other items on order from other places and it didn't even occur to me it might be from "Dell".

Then I check my credit card online and find out that Dell has charged me fully for both the part of the shipment I refused and for this burner. I'm POed! Dell has already received a 'communication' from me and will continue to do so until they make this right. Their inept and incompetent handling of online orders from the Software and Peripherals store is totally inexcusable. They WILL make this right.

It wouldn't be so bad on my end if I hadn't already ordered and received a similar drive from Newegg (quite promptly and with a free upgrade to 40X). On their end, I'm afraid Dell needs to stop selling peripherals until they can do so professionally. Perhaps Michael Dell needs to have a long talk with the management of Newegg.

Update:

It looks like I'm screwed. I only wanted to order one. I thought that my order was dropped so I ordered a few more thinking I can get them canceled. WRONG. All four drives are into production and I can't cancel anymore. Looks like I have to resell them.

Ordered Monday 4/22 11:20 p.m, and got my blank SONY CD-R (24X, 700mB) today. Got my order confirmation e-mail 2 hours after I ordered and expect it by Friday, April 26th. BTW, order status shows in production.
