LIte-on 24X reading problems

I bought the retail lite on 24 x and Im using Win XP Pro. I updated the firmware but the drive has probelms reading correctly. It spins up then slwos down then speeds up then slwos down. I was playing a movie (divx) off a cd and it has probelms reading it well, but when I put the cd in my cheap EPO dvd drive the movie plays perfectly. Any suggestions???
 
lite on claimed it would increase readability and other stuff, on the website it says just do it or soemthing.
 
my uncles 24x liteon is displaying similar properties.
1.it didnt read colored pny media at all.
2.it had difficulty reading other media as well(cdr,etc)


i was going to pull the trigger and get this burner,now im not so sure.
 
I have a Lite On 24X installed on our web server for quick backups of critical data that I can carry offsite -- can't be too careful. It has a nasty habbit of locking up Windows 2000 Server during reads of more than 400 megabytes. And I mean locked up -- I have to hard boot the thing. In my experience, it takes a major screw up to to essentially crash a Win2K machine.

Strange, I've also installed these in Win2k Pro, XP and Win98 machines and those seem to work fine. Probably drive-specific problem, as opposed to OS.
