are these a rebranded version of some other burner, like TDK or Acer
or whatever?
or are these lite ons actually their own thing?

Lite-on is made by Lite-on, they are the actual manufacturer just like Plextor etc.

So, if I pick up a retail one of these for $103 at my local SAMS Club, where is the best pricematch for my AMEX BLUE? And do I have to add shipping to the other lower priced item if it is not local?

Say what? Sam's has the Lite-On 24x burner for $103? The last time I was there (Friday), they had the Pacific Digital (probably a Lite-On) for $119.99.

I'm in Alaska, and the last time I was at SAMS Club they had the Pacific Digital 24x10x40x for $103. It pissed me off because I bought the Pacific Digital 16x10x40x (which is definitely a Lite-On) for like $105 a couple months ago. So, now for $2 less, I could get the 24x10x40x. I'm assuming it's a Lite-On since the other one was. I could probably just open one and look in.

I got this exact Lite-On 24x burner from NewEgg for $100 shipped about a month ago and I absolutly love it!
It comes with Nero 5,I have yet to make a bad CD out of maybe 30 that Ive burned,I even burn 24x on 16x Cd-R's.
Great product.;)

i've heard good things about this thing too. you think the prices are dropping a lot because of DVD-RW or maybe the new 32X CD-RWs that are coming out?

Interestingly, the linked page now has the drive for $72.00 but it explicitly states bare drive OEM. So it probably doesn't have the Nero software with it.

I think the difference is that the "RETAIL" verson comes with a blank CD-R a blank CD-RW,audio cable and NERO.The OEM comes with just the audio cable and NERO.

This is a very nice drive and the price can not be beat....I love plex but how can you justify the higher cost..the drive performs as well...and will last until I upgrade again.

Pacific Digital I am sure is lie Hival and others they buy the drive and repackage it...but because the used Liteon in 16x does not mean they will use a 24x liteon so beware...I got my liteon at Compusa from Hival..but Hival is also using Aopen 24x cdrw....I think they switched because the box had a different cosemtic look..with Liteon vs Aopen inside..

I would bet prices are dropping for the usual reasons..plus the 32x cdrw are expexcted in retail sector by end of Dec or earlier Jan....
Though therre are reports Liteon 32x may be lag as there is shortage of chipsets but other companies are supposedly shipping to OEM in Dec
