Lite On 24x/10x/40x CDRW - Impressive..

I've always been a Plextor fan (not to be confused with fanboy as fanboys tend to ignore the rest of the world).. I needed a new burner so after having read the praises people were giving the Lite On 24x, I needed to check it out.. I finally found it for $140.00 -- what a price, that's about 1/2 price compared to an equivalent Plextor here..

I purchased it, I installed it, I installed Nero which came with it.. I take out one of my OLD 700Mb CD-R's (I'm pretty sure this sucker isn't even rated anything above 4x - yah, I said it's OLD) and I put it into the Lite On 24x.. I put my WinXP 489Mb CD into my DVD drive (Pioneer 16x slot).. I set it up so that it's "on the fly", ie.. the hard drive won't be used, it'll be CD to CD directly.. I also set it at 24x burn.. Note that these 2 drives are on the SAME IDE channel.. I start the burn process.. It takes 3 1/2 minutes.. I am just laughing as I think, "Okay, this surely didn't work -- especially with the way I've done it (cd to cd, same idea channel, 4x rated CD-R)".. I decide, just for fun, to check out the newly burnt CD in my Pioneer drive..

GASP.. WHAT THE...... IT WORKS..?!

Needless to say, I have to admit that this CDRW rocks - the price is unbelieveable to boot.. Ok, my positive rant is over.. 🙂

My first burner was the Yamaha 16x/4x/4x -- it eventually died awhile back.. I hadn't gotten around to changing it until now -- the 24x is quite the upgrade in comparison! If Lite On doesn't make the mistake of using cheaper quality parts, I'm positive the 32x will be awesome also -- fingers crossed.. 🙂
 
Cool. I just got mine last ngith and installed it. Pretty freakin' sweet.

But... just for reference, most places I've seen (online) are selling it for ~$100 or so.

I bought my first burner a couple months ago, and found the QUE! 16x10x40 for 100. at Compusa. It works great, burned an entire cd from the hard drive in about 6 mins. I was really impressed with the review I read. Even though I am a newbie at burners, I was able to install and write my first cd in about 30 mins. I have read that Lite-On makes a good burner and driver, but I haven't personall y used them.
 
My brand new LiteOn 24x burner is not closing :disgust: . I used it to burn 1 cd last night and when i turned my computer on this morning it opened by itself and it keeps opening by itself. Is there anything i can do?
 
This is unrelated, but how good is that Pioneer 16X DVD drive? I have been considering that as my next upgrade. It's priced reasonably, is 16x/40x, and I like the slot variant. How is it at reading CD's and DVD's? Is it loud? Is the spin-up time good? Give me your thoughts. Thanks.
 
Picked up the retail 24x lite-on for $75 from some place called pcbuyerclub, you just can't beat a new 24x burner for <$80. They are damnn near as cheap as a standard cd-rom these days!
 
I gotta say that I'm impressed with my lite on 16x. I just put 721mb on a 700mb CD. I can't freaking believe that it worked.

Well, I've never had any problems with it, so far.. Spin up time isn't too bad.. It has always read whatever CD/DVD I've placed in it.. I think the only possible minute negative thing you could say about it is the sound -- it's not like an airplane or anything, but it isn't "quiet" either.. Hope that helps.. 🙂

It's about the same story for me, it died soon after the warranty period which didn't please me too much.. I also spent a lot on it -- it was when the 4x's just came out, so.. In any case, I'd never buy another Yamaha burner, they might be better now, but I just felt really "burnt" (pardon the pun) when it died.. 🙂
 
Ok... after reading this I am shying away from the Yamaha now, lol... The question remains.. what's the best 24x CD-RW, preferably one sold in a store (mom refuses to buy online, doh)
 
For a retail store, go to OfficeMax this weekend and get the Cendyne 24X burner that is on sale + MIR. It's actually a Lite-On inside the box, and includes Nero software.
