i got the new price of 53$ - 15% + free shipping. the weird thing is they charged me tax. ive ordered before from dell andthey never charged me tax. i live in ny, there is no business presence in ny. when i add the drive from home office, there is no tax. but if i add from small business i get taxed. weird business practice ehh??

well all in all, i got it for around 49$ shipped. btw, this is retail drive right??

You can't play DVDs without software which costs nearly as much as a drive if bought separately. That's why I want to know if this comes with an XP compatible player. I have a DVD drive but the player doesn't work with XP. Rather than buy new software, I'd rather buy a combo and have a spare DVD drive for my money.

Also, I thoufht Lite-on was a well know brand so I checked Cnet and ZD for info and there are no hits for LiteOn Lite-ON, Lite On nor is there any mention of any Lite On drive in DVD-ROM or CD-ROM review. Kinda Twighlight Zone.

Just checked their tech specs on it, states that it comes with neccesarry drivers and utilities, whatever that means to include. Anyone already gotten theirs please elaborate?

Mine is coming next Monday, so I don't know this for sure. But I think it's coming with PowerDVD, and it's XP compatible.

What version of PowerDVD? Only the latest one works with WinXP. TIA

Yes, it comes with PowerDVD, version 3.0. Even my drive was made in Dec. 2001, they did not put in latest 4.0 However, with a 5M patch from cyberlink, our 3.0 works on XP too. (you do not have to search, after you install that 3.0, it will bring you to the web, and you can download the update there).

It (3.0) has all functions I need. The only problem I noticed is if you play DVD using MS Media Player, it won't pass the digital audio through S/PDIF. My WinDVS seems to be able to do that.
