Listening to TV through computer speakers...

a friend of mine did this long time ago...
he opened up his tv .
and rewired the sound cables to his receiver.
so it can be done...
but too much hassle for me.
 
I was coming home today thinking the same thing I have a tv with the little yellow red and white plugs, a sony trinitron. Can i hook my tv up to my comp speakers?

If so how,

I have a SB augigy and im getting the logitech z560s

The little yellow, red and white plugs are RCA jacks for video, audio L and audio R, respectively.

3 options:

1. Rewire existing speaker in TV (more work than it's worth and likely to be mono anyway)
2. Buy a TV tuner card for your PC
3. Use a VCR or DVD player that has an antenna input (for the TV signal) and RCA outputs for sound; you could then route the audio to your PC.
 
It's really simple actually. You'll need to get a VCR though. Just hook up your VCR to your TV, and (assuming you're using RCA jacks) only plug the video (yellow) jack into the TV. Then, buy a RCA to stereo-miniplug connector (about $3 at radioshack - it has red and white RCA jacks on one end and a 1/8" stereo-miniplug connector on the other) and plug that from your VCR to your speaker input. Plug the antenna (or cable) jack into the VCR and voila, you're set.

The plus side of this setup is that you can use your regular TV speakers normally, and when you want to use your computer speakers, all you need to do is turn on the VCR. The downside is that the VCR has to be on to listen to sound from your computer speakers.
 
would i plug the rca cables into my speakers or into my soundcard... because if i plug them into my speakers i wont be able to use them without changing around cables right?

Get the RCA to miniplug adapter & route this into your soundcard (input jack).
