would u really say q2 revolutionized online gaming?

i would say quake1 did more for online then any game. but to each his own.

When Quake came out, I didn't have internet access. I remember trying to put together a dial-up game with my friend across the street and it was slow and laggy.

By the time I got to college, QII was where it was at, and it seemed to me that it was easier to find/join a game, and that it was much better and faster to play, even over dialup.

Maybe it's just my (mis)perception since I had little experience with multiplayer QI.

come to think of it. multiplayer was hard at first, i forgot of those days unill QuakeSpy

i would have to say QuakeSpy (aka now GameSpy) help revolutionize online gaming.
untill that i do remember quake being really hard to play online games.

I've really only played a handful of FPS and UT was the only one that had any staying power. UT and UT2k4.

1. Quake1 (Best online community, the first in nearly every great mod - ctf, tf, action quake, etc)
2. Half-Life (Counter-Strike had a worse community but great competitive gameplay)
3. Doom2 (I have to list it, it really got the ball rolling and started a lot of imagination as to what was possible)
4. Enemy Territory (Free multiplayer madness that took a decent system created by RTCW and made it into an amazing multiplayer wargame experience)
5. Deus Ex1 (Single Player that many don't even bother competing with)

Solder of Fortune
Medal of Honor
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
