Replacement of two wheel studs after they were ruined by a stupid tire shop. $300 in labor because they had to be drilled out.

Drilled? Strange. I've had to replace a couple before but I recall they just snapped off and at most I had to tap them out. Reason was also tire shop. That's what you get when you take an impact wrench, jack it up to the highest setting possible and torque the fvck out of the lugs. I generally loosen lugs if a shop has worked on my car so I'm not stranded on the side of the road unable to undo in case of a flat and having only a simple hand tool to do it.

240sx: "refreshed" the engine back in april. That was a nightmare. Haven't touched it since

G35: ds rear pads ate themselves within 1 month. R/R'd them on monday
G20: replaced the rear beam 3 months ago.
Since when did the 240sx have an I6?

Last weekend:
-replaced broken lug bolt
-replaced front/right wheel bearing
-replaced front/right axle
-installed coilovers
-rolled front fenders

The LAST repair... I had to put some screws back in the armrest on my TL. I'm not sure how screws just fall out. Other than that I'd have to go back to my last car to list anything that I don't consider a maintenance item. I'm probably going to get new tires tomorrow at 49K miles.

oh, the hub was ruined also

I think that part was like $125

bad memories

Most recent work done was front brakes and rotors, friend and i did em up last weekend. $95 all parts.

If counting that as a maint thing, then the last REPAIR was in 2007 when my alternator went out. Somewhere in the $100 range, part only.

1999 Camry V6.

I forgot all about my $175 repair job for getting the head rebuilt and a refurbished piston/rod/cylinder and bearings for my boxer 6. The previous owner lost a screw down the carb. That was fun to fix.

Between both cars, the only non maintenance repair work was the passenger side mirror when my wife ripped it off driving out of the garage.

rear bearing on my miata. had to pull the whole axle and put it on a press to get the stub out, AFTER I completely destroyed the threads on it buy hammering on the nut I put on the stub to protect it (oh, sweet irony) then I had to cut new threads and force a nut that kinda sorta fit on it.

next week I get to pull it all apart again and thrown in a new axle. while I'm in there, I'm rebuilding the stuck caliper too. then I'm replacing the top. got a few long night ahead of me 😀

Replaced the crankshaft position sensor on 97 Bonneville. $29.90 for new sensor, $27.95 for a new harmonic balancer puller. About $10,000.00 in the cuss jar, at a quarter a swear.

Cracked a wheel when I hit a rock that was kicked onto the track.. Gonna be about $350 for the replacement wheel.

Yesterday was an odd fusion of computer and car repair skills 😛

Another outstanding (but non-critical) issue with my Passat was that the remotes weren't working. I had already pre-verified that the car's PCBs weren't soaking in water (such as is the case with many Passats of this vintage), but my central locking was acting up even more in the past few days post-purchase. I decided to pull the CCM box and have a look. It was bone dry inside and out, but I found an electolytic cap on its PCB that had blown and vented out of its bottom bung. A Matsushita cap, no less. I went to the local Crappy Shack and bought the best replacement I could find in stock, busted out the soldering iron, and swapped it out.

Result: Central locking that works properly again, and one working remote. I still need to figure out what's going on with the other remote, but I think I've resolved and ruled out any issues with the central locking controller/receiver.

Long story short:

Replacement CCM box for an '00 Passat: $75-150

1000 uf 50v Nichicon elecrolytic cap off the shelf from Radio Shack: $2.75 :awe:
