I know this, but when its that low (10-20 lbs), and they aren't sweating or anything, it seems futile to me. It also hogs the machine.

I had to do stuff like that to rehab my shoulder.

It always annoyed me when the asian muscle men would eye me sidelong as I was wincing lifting low weights. What business is it of theirs how much I'm lifting?

No. Because 100 reps at 20 lbs, when they can obviously do more (they are not struggling to do this at all) seems kind of futile. Its just a minor annoyance, however. They aren't doing anything for their muscles doing this.

Actually, very high rep/low weight routines are good for specific muscular endurance.
LoL, says you. Says me: It's a cheap form of half cardio and you don't get big from it.

Not everyone is trying to get big, or even build muscle mass. While I build for mass, I have to admit it's dickheads like you who make bodybuilders look bad. Luckily we don;t have people like you in my gym... or if we do, they keep their ignorant mouths shut.

And highrep workouts ARE used for specific muscular endurance, and as someone else pointed out, physical therapy. Highrep workouts are also good for people with arthritis.

Not everyone has the same goals as you or I do. It's time you grew up and realized that.

major irritations:

people who "squat" to well above parallel, then ADD MORE WEIGHT.
people curling in the squat rack.

things that are sometimes irritating:

people who put plates in the racks backwards.
people who don't re-rack their weights.
the gym attendant's choice of music.

:Q Wow :Q I'm glad I have never seen that.

Chalk up another one for people who use the squat rack for curls. I HATE THAT!! And then they'll leave the bar on the bottom of the rack with all the plates still on it. :|

Edit: spelling

Struck a nerve, did I? Good. Maybe you'll learn something now, and stop spouting off wrong information...The primary goal, when ever touching a weight, is to build muscle, and to get stronger. Yes, you will get stronger by going high rep/low weight, but it's a highly inefficient and SLOW way to build strength. You want endurance? That's a function of c-a-r-d-i-o.

No sht some people can't lift heavy, wtf doesn't know that? Thanks for educating me daddy, now can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?

You obviously don't have the same goals as me if you follow the BS you just spouted out of your cornhole. Let me ask you, can someone who can max bench press 500 lbs do more total reps of any amount of lighter weight then someone who can only max out 250lbs? BTW: Define muscular endurance. It'll be interesting to what information source you link to. Ignorant mouth shut? Please, I would embarrass you at the gym. Ask Melvin (RagingBitch) what I lift, "dickhead" (way to show your class, I bet you get ALL the ladies!).

EDIT: I'm off to the gym to deadlift. I'll check back to see your response later.

I hate it when people spit in the water fountain. I've seen everything from huge wads of mucus to pieces of gum. I find it disgusting.

When one does cardio with their legs, they build MUSCULAR ENDURANCE. Ever try doing cardio with your arms, like rowing??? Why would someone ROW? Could it be to BUILD MUSCULAR ENDURANCE??? Sure, that's great for your biceps and back, but what if you want to build muscular endurance in other parts of your upper body?

Hint: You wont get muscular endurance from building size and strength. This explains why someone half your size could row all day long while you poop out after 20 minutes.

Now, besides specific muscular endurance, there is also therapeutic exercise to help with joint pain, most often because of injury or diseases like arthritis.

NONE of these goals is helped the least bit by low volume, high intensity weight training. They must be reached by HIGH volume, low intensity training.

The only person spouting here is you. You are ignorantly bleating the advise given to people who wish to train for strength and size. While I will agree that this happens to be the vast majority of people, there ARE cases in which high volume, low intensity weight training is beneficial. And that was my point from the beginning.

Do *I* follow high volume low intensity training? No, of course not. None of my goals would be reached by it. Would I suggest high volume low intensity training to someone who wants pain relief from arthritis? Of course. High intensity weight training will only aggravate their condition. The same with someone undergoing physical therapy for an injury.

1. People who f*ck up my workout routine by taking their sweet time on a machine(when they're talking).
2. People who walk right between me and mirror while i'm halfway through my set. (i use the mirror for good form)
3. " " that don't wipe after them selves.
4. people who make weak foul calls, don't pass the rock and refuse to play defense!(My gym has a basketball court)
5. Oh yeah....Fat People in tight Clothing.

Funny thread. I guess the only ones that really bother me are the sweat pool people and the loud grunters. Especially since 99% of grunters just do it to call attention to themselves.

1.people who pay more attention to other people's form/bodies and workout's than they do their own.

2.pushy people who step 6 inches from your face while youy're in the middle of a rep to ask if they can work in.

3.women who make funky messes in the women's locker room and walk off without cleaning up.I don't need to slip and fall on your talcum powder.

I hate it when i'm like, in the middle of a set, and a person is waiting for the bench or whatever, and they tower over me, it's very off putting when concentrating.

Which leads onto People who feel that once issued their routine from the gym trainier, it's essential it's done in EXACT order for the same bodypart. So say i'm using the lat pulldown for my back, they feel its better to stand donig nothing for 6 minutes while they wait for me, then do the an alternate excersise and keep the pump going. They'd rather put me off, waste their own time, and lose there pump.

People that judge your workout. I don't care if the gym trainer issued them with a 10-12 rep routine, i'm going 4-6 reps, stop looking at me like i'm "cheating".

Groups of Kids. There are these 3 kids that just started going to my gym, and they are complete f!cks. See it's a part of a private tennis club, but anyone can be a member of the gym, so these kids are brats and think they're the sh!t. they sit there goin "oh can you lift that, can you lift that" to each other, and think they can do what they want.

and and extension:

People who walk around naked, brush their teeth, shave, fold their clothes, etc etc etc, and stay naked as long as freaking possible. I mean, it's fine to get naked, shower, dry off, then get dressed, but to purposefully stretch out being naked as long as possible... yeesh.

Cell phones at gym. People who scream too loud. People who deliberately talk about their pathetic lives to their white trash friends at elevated volume.

People who use chalk, and don't clean up after themselves.

People who fill HUGE bottles of water at the drinking fountain without stepping aside once in a while while a line forms behind them.

100% agreed with all of these. Some more to add on to the list:

Dumbass roid-poppers that can be heard screaming all the way across the gym
Guys in tight clothing
Guys in torn off shirts, pants, shorts, etc (ok, you should be comfortable, but dont come dressed like a fsckin penniless slob)
Pushy "trainers" at the gym

BTW, I'll get flamed for this but I'm guilty of using the squat cage for bicep curls (which I just did today, coincidentally). The 45-lb bar plus some small weights gives me a better workout, it seems like. Also, along with the curls, it gives me a chance to work on my forearms. Besides, I don't use the thing for more than 5-10 minutes anyway, I do my curls and leave it like I found it. Flame away...

Most have been mentioned but I'll reiterate. I don't get too annoyed by how others lift or if the grunt at a minimal level as I realize other people have different workout goals and I occasionally grunt quietly.

1. PEOPLE WHO DON'T RACK THEIR WEIGHTS - I don't care if you have 5 plates on each side of the bar or the machine, take off the fricken weights so that a) others don't have to and b) others know you are done with it

2. People who hog machines for 30+ minutes (yes some guy at the gym the other day was on a row machine for 30+ minutes). I didn't want to work in b/c it would inconvenience both of use by swapping weights so much. I don't mind changing my order or waiting a minute or two for you to get done, but 10 minutes is PLENTY on one machine.

3. Numbskulls who walk in front of me when I'm lifting or try to "squeeze by" me. I use the mirror for proper form for many excercises and if you can't fit through you wait 30 seconds. Pay attention when your walking around talking on your phone or to your buddy

4. Morons who talk to me or ask me something DURING MY SET. If you want to work in or tell me about your weekend wait until I'm done with my set.

5. People who workout in denim jeans....I mean honestly is that comfortable?

6. People who wear sandals to workout....are you asking to have your toes crushed off or what, stupid yuppie?

people who put rediculous amounts of weight on the bar and then have their spot do most of the lifting so they look bigger

people who put huge a huge amount of weight on the bar and sit on the end of the bench like they just got done with a huge set for 15 minutes (when they lifted it once and pretended they did a set of 15)

For me the most annoying part is if I walk away from a bench or chair or whatever I was using to get a drink of water, and almost every time someone goes to it and starts using it. I don't carry a towel or water bottle to "mark" my territory, so partially it's my fault but it happens EVERY time. I just stopped even bothering going back and trying to work in, I'll just find another area.

Seriously, it's SUPER that you can leg press 250lbs, but that doesn't give you the right to leave 6 plates sitting on the rack for someone else to put away. I hope your shins snap in half next time you use the machine, jerkface.

250lb leg press?

That's not much.

You're probably one of those lazy ass non-rackers. Shut up, dillweed. RACK YOUR WEIGHTS.

Nah I rack my weights. But 250? Come ooon. Atleast 325. Easy.

And when you've got that much weight, it takes time to rack it. I dont have time.
