Hmm, I always find listening to Sentenced makes me feel less depressed 🙂
Tristania is good for dealing with pain, but doesn't make me depressing or sad either.
 
Counting Crows - colorblind
Radiohead - Pyramid song
Portishead - roads ( the most depressing song I'v ever heard)
Sigur Rós - Dánarfregnir og Jarðarfarir ( its poweful but the reason its sad is because its a remix of a song that has been used on one radiostation here for something like 50 years when they are reporting people who have died recently )

I see that someone hasn't listen to many Morrissey songs. Girlfriend In A Coma is a song by The Smiths. Trying actually listening to some of the lycis of The Smiths/Morrissey. A lot of it is Black Humour. But if it is sad songs by The Smiths/Morrissey you are looking for then here are a few:

Trying listening to Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others and tell me that it is depressing. Or, You're The One For Me Fatty. Ok, some of the songs are depressing. But, I find humour in a lot of them as well. :Q

teatheif, you are correct that Morrissey laced his music with some perverse humor. However, it was very few and far between and I always interpreted the humor to itself be a manifestation of just such a sad state.

The Smiths/Morrisey have(has?) been perhaps the most consistently powerful/insightful pop music I have ever heard. I spent years dwelling and ruminating in the misery.🙂 Fortunately my depression went away, but I still hold those songs fondly in my heart.

"Love, Peace and Harmony....very nice, very nice, very nice, but maybe in the world." 🙂
