This is probably the most brilliant album I have ever heard.

Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits. Don't care if it's cheating. It's a must have and it's just one album.
 
Since Pink Floyd's The Wall and DSOTM have been mentioned already, my recommendation goes to Wish You Were Here. Momentary Lapse of Reason and Pulse also deserve an honorable mention (as do all other Floyd albums). 😉
